I spotted $1.99 gal for the first time today.
I have no stats, but for some reason I think the price drop doesn't really have that much to do with the law of supply and demand. |

| I'm sure demand has diminished some but I also have a feeling that the lower prices are at least in part a result of an extended concession to the recent political campaign and now that it's over, we should start seeing some more increases. OPEC has already come out favoring production cuts. Isn't that usually the first step? | |

I think it's a reaction to the condition of car makers.
And the possibility of alternate fuels - IF the US bails out the industry. It's not only the economy hurting car makers. The price of fuel is making people think about other modes of transportation. Maybe permanently. |

I've seen it between $1.84 - $2.01, depending on what part of town you're in.

here's a link for a clickable map that will tell you how much gas is, clickable all the way down to city. It's interesting to see where you stand compared to another town or state, but I don't use it much, unless I'm traveling.

You got that right. I made a change over the summer. I ride my bike more and take public transportation to work. Luckily, I live one 10 minute route away from all 3 jobs. At the peak of gas prices, I was probably spending $80 a month. Right now I'd say I'm saving $50 month. My local gas station now shows $1.88/gallon. Whoohoo. Still gonna ride the bike, though. |

| I was just about to say $1.69 at one of the little convenience stores here this afternoon. The big names are all still 20 to 30 cents higher than that though. | |

Two separate Chevron stations near me now post the following prices:
$1.61/gallon $1.59/gallon According to my local news station, this is the lowest gas has run since 2003. One energy expert said the price for a barrell of crude could go as low as $25. Seems China is pulling back on its orders, as that country chose to subsidize the price of a gallon of gas for its citizens, then went way in the hole when oil was at the $149 mark last summer. |

Same down here Mags. Not sure if it's gonna last. What's nipping at me is my electricity rate last year was 14 cents/kw-hour. Now it's almost 19 cents. I'm home less than ever before but somehow the meter reader clocks me as using more kws for this month this year than December of last year  . . .
. . . but that's another topic for another day. |
