hi. it's me again. now that we're halfway into december with scheduling, does anyone know yet which week we actually will be doing store inventory? the week right after new year's we are usually still prepping a bit and doing stockroom inventories, but the next full week.......... January 11 - 17..... will that be the BIG inventory ????? or will it be the week before ??? (Jan 4-10).
i have upcoming jury duty and hope it is the actual week of inventory. any help will be greatly appreciated, as always........ thanks.........Norma Rae.

Norma, I can't even think ahead three days from now.

Inventory in January seems as distant to the time we get to fly around with personal jetpacks.

Gotta get through Happy Holidays first.

Ours is the week of Jan 12. So sad, I'll get out of it again this year. College for me starts on Jan 12. Very Happy

I'm new here. Work Macy's West in California, and yes, I mailed the card for my piece of the pie.

Norma, I'm sure if you talked to the lawyers and the court they would be happy to start the trial when your store is doing inventory!! If they know anything about how awful Macy's is, I am sure they would accommodate you! Thumbs Up

I would think jury duty would take presedence over inventory. It's your civic duty, and if Macy's doesn't like it, tough shit. You probably need to show proof of service.

oh, by the way, i found out when inventory is. it's Jan 7 - 13th. macy's is NOT, i repeat, NOT CLOSING ANY STORES ON THE MAIN INVENTORY DAY - TUESDAY JAN 13. all inventory will be done while the store is open. they will be doing inventory with nite shifts as well, like last year.
yep, like most everything else, they are picking up ALL of may company's bad habits.

if anyone gets somewhat of a schedule of what departments will be done JAN 7, 8, 9 th and what will be done Monday and tuesday, JAN 12 and 13, i'd appreciate the heads up.

that's it for now........now back to the christmas rush.....hee.

Inventory shorts us on our paychecks. At least for us, we don't work the full 7.5hrs. We have to clock out for meals(which is totally unfair, because we are locked in the store ON OUR TIME!!) At least the cheap asses could pay us for our meal breaks, give us time and 1/2 or something extra.

If you are not working 7.5 hours, you should NOT be clocking our for you meal! You should take a 30 min. PAID break.

Yeah I've noticed too that we won't be closing all day. That may make sense for the smaller mall stores that have less inventory, but my store is a larger big city store. This fall we've had a large number of receipts because the company was hoping for quite an aggressive sales plan this year for our store. Then the economy went south and I think you all know the rest of the story. Therefore we'll have a ton of merchandise to count. I have a feeling our inventory is going to go for a couple of days after it officially ends.

I'm at home right now so I don't have access to the schedule. From the top of my head, stockrooms during the day, Thursday after closing is usually Mens and Womens Shoes, Intimate Apparel. Sunday after closing is usually center core (handbags, accessories, jewelry, cosmetics). Monday after closing is usually home. Tuesday before opening is most of the RTW departments. In our store when overnights are done it's usually a some of the Women's RTW departments.

that's it for now........now back to the christmas rush.....hee.

Bell,
There's no way they can lock you in your store...even for inventory...can't you exit through the employee entrance...I've never heard of this happening, and it's probably illegal.

Macy,
This is not true in all stores...in East stores, if you are "scheduled" 7 hrs or more you must take a 1 hr. unpaid meal break...usually this ties in with state laws. It may vary a little in some stores...so anyone questioning it should ask HR for a copy of the meal and break policy...

I understand about the state laws, that's why the giant class action here in CA. My bitch is that we CAN'T leave the building since the clock-out lunch time is OUR time.

Speaking of the CA Class Action Lawsuit, did you mail yours in! I got my second postcard after I mailed mine two weeks ago telling me to join in. I mailed that one in too!

Last year some people wanted to go out the employee entrance to have a ciggie and one other gal's hubby was waiting for her outside to pick her up...
security BLOCKED THE DOOR !!! YEP, YOU READ THAT RIGHT. THEY THINK THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT. this is new york state, by the way. if it was me, i would have called the cops. (yeh, i really would have).
