I read somewhere or heard somewhere that Lundgren is expecting to close 9-11 stores as part of continuing operations. The liquidations will begin in January after inventory has been completed.

Maybe they got promoted to "Christmas Trim Shop" managers, and they are way too busy for us.

Sorry, all...just crazy busy lately (just like everyone!)...the weird thing is, I haven't heard any new info about anything at all. We took 2 rounds of xmas temp job cuts about a month ago (none of these actually were jobs with people in them), but they were small and, to be honest, I'm shocked that nothing else is happening considering how horrible business is. This is probably a bad sign for January. I predict everything will start coming down the days right after Christmas, I think they will cut quite a few jobs for the new season (starts in Feb.)...I too think they will probably close quite a few stores...I think 9-11 that FOM mentioned is optimistic...
I promise you all if I hear anything at all I will let you know!

hello everybody and happry holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hope everybody is doing well!!!!

like frank, it has been a very busy christmas season. i have looked at the forum but have been very busy to really read many of the posts.

like frank said, we have taken job cuts and reduced hours. today, a email was sent out by corporate hr to cut hours for the next three days and protect friday and saturday. register training was stopped and hiring was stopped today for the season.

i think after christmas we will hear about stores closing and the loss of jobs. there is also a rumor that there will be only two divisons, east and west and they will dissolve the others.

fyi....i think in some regions, stores will open at 2pm the day of inventory.

good luck to everybody!!!!!!!

i hope money is doing well. the christmas shop looked great at his store. i even saw money when i was there but he had no idea who i was. lol

Since you're in the east, have you heard anything about dissolving Florida and central into east and west?

I have a hard time with the Florida division.... It has always been its own breed. I can see Macy's Central/South's dissolution because Macy's Central/South was originally a part of East and West.

Though the only thing that puzzles me in their new small store strategy that is trying to make their stores more locally managed, why consolidate it all to New York?

Then again it would eliminate how many CEO/Chairman positions allowing the company to free up much needed operating capital.

Muhahahahaha... My name is Terry Lundgren and I have determined MAYcylady that you work at our Bloomigdale's location in Las Vegas Nevada! I will be sendig word to terminate you as soon as we have exhausted our using you.

LOL

I have always been a nerd about this... My honors topic in college was,

"Macy's and how it has shaped Popular Culture over the course of the last 150 years"

One of my favorite books that I read was "LIKE NO OTHER STORE: THE BLOOMINGDALES LEGEND" by Marvin Traub, former Chairman and CEO Bloomingdale's. I also enjoyed: The Rain on Macy's Parade and a book I read about Robert Campeau who owned Federated in the 1980's. I find it amazing that he was able to buy two of the biggest department store companies ever without any of his own money and single handedly bankrupt both companies and RH Macy as well as give Stupid-Mart the leg up in this world!

macy's being macy's will no doubt do their idiotic manuever this year once again and let LOTS of the seasonal help go BEFORE inventory !!! HELLO, STUPID !!!! these people want to work and would be very useful to do inventory, so someone like me who has MAJOR physical reasons why i can't do inventory (or do the least amount possible) wouldn't be forced to work it.
of course 2 years ago (or was it last year? it's all a blur to me now....) the LAST DAY OF INVENTORY all the seasonal help PLUS SOME OF OUR START TEAMS !!!!! (oh YES) were let go after they finished up. nice, eh? thanks for nothing !!!

yes, you count.
