Because it is the holiday season I just wanted to share a special "You Count" story with all of you.
Terrible snowstorm in my area yesterday. The police were asking the malls to close to get people off the streets so they could be plowed and salted. The entire mall closed at 8pm.
Macy's stayed open till MIDNIGHT! YOU COUNT!!!!

Money before people.

We've been having very cold rain and standing outside of the store waiting for the shuttle to pick us up. Then we take a grand tour of the parking lot to see if there are any other mall workers needing a ride. This takes about 20 minutes. I can get home in 10, put my jammies on, and pour a glass of wine in the time it takes me to get to my car. Two more days.

Fashion, same situation here. The second snowstorm in three days, and we had blizzard conditions in some areas.

Macy's stayed open til midnight -- we'd considered closing early, but were refused by someone at the corporate level.

I had my last customer at 9:45. Otherwise, there was a handful of very creepy, anti-social people who wandered -- really wandered in the most unfocused, confused meaning of the word possible -- through the store. We did special checks of the restrooms and accessible stock areas before leaving because a couple customers appeared totally cracked out. On the plus side, however, I got 80% of my selling area area looking PERFECT.

I have to share some good news with you all, however. My store manager has proven himself to be the best store manager I've ever met. Not only has he practically been living in the store for the last six weeks, he's been on the selling floor constantly, helping ring customers and recovering along with the sales associates in every area of the store. He's remained upbeat, positive, and kept his sense of humor. I have never, ever, seen him angry.

On Saturday, along with our HR reps' assistance, he arranged to have the associate lounge decorated with trees and wreaths and pointsettias, and had a hot buffet lunch catered in from a local Italian restaurant -- with pasta and salad and chicken marsala and bread sticks -- for everyone for the entire day. And on the house.

And he sent every associate in the store a personal Christmas card. I received mine last Thursday at home.

He is one in a million, I tell you.

In addition, my selling manager had pizza delivered last Friday and provided beverages, potato chips and even made Christmas cookies. I helped her set up and decorate a table in a stockroom.

There are times when I really hate my job and the way Macy's does things, but we have a really, really great store here. We take care of each other and have always worked our asses off to stay together.

Huds, you are lucky. Don't take it for granted, b/c I haven't heard of too many SM's like that. We had a great one once, but only once.

Our employee appreciation from our management was a hot dog, chips, and soda lunch. Cheap asses.

Gee, at least you guys had something for Christmas dinner. We had a Thanksgiving dinner, catered. We also usually get $10 gift cards with our Christmas cards, but not this year. Economy is tough. BTW, I work for a Sears DC. Business is way down, along with morale. Sad Mad

Apparently some corporate big wig put the nix on our closing early too! How about he comes here and waits on the one customer in the store, digs my car out of the parking lot, drives me home in the blizzard on the unplowed streets, shovels my drive so I can get in and makes me a hot toddy when I finally get in my house!

We had our Christmas party at the last minute practically. All the vendor reps brought food for us (and apparently shopped in the same restaurants for the exact same thing because we had a ton of wraps, and salads.) Of course the snoots--I mean the buyers--came down to grace us with their presence. Thankfully, our MTM told everyone to eat before they came down from their tower made of bland drywall. From what I heard, they were not pleased. They'll learn to get over it.

Herald Square was open twenty four hours, and from what I heard, no one was in the store in the middle of the night. The entire season was slow for us.

My manager made business plan last month, so we all get an extra 10%. 30% total! As a matter of fact our department had the best sales in the area for Christmas.

Yeah, we went below our ridiculously aggressive plan for the entire season. They also upped our stock to the nth degree, so we still have some summer merchandise in the middle of winter, and cannot even sell that.. We're the weakest link.
