I understand that the OP's managers at Winchester Va. and LaVale Md. were fired this week. Those jobs have been posted. Has anyone else seen any "heads roll" in their stores? I also understand from friends at those stores, the management in those locations are running scared and making insane decisions.

What else is new? The same thing happens when they hear that the DM is on the way for a visit.

We had a ZM a few years back who wrote up 5 people on his last day before he transferred to a store in another state. Guess he wanted to show he still had the authority to do it. What an a-hole.

7 people in one day ???
You got me curious .What were the offenses ?
Were people warned about their behavior ahead of time ? ,Did the write-ups stick ?

Maybe they weren't on the sales floor during impact hours.

Or maybe they refused to clean the bathrooms.

If Lowe's was smart and really wanted to save a few bucks, they'd can all HR's at the store level just like HD did. I'm sure that's still on the table at corporate.

Store Manager from 2668 was walked out. No details right now. Everyone is very tight lipped.

Well after today's glorious 4th Quarter report with the missing earning expectations, you're going to see heads roll for sure now. Robert & Larry...the tag team dynamic screw-ooo. I can't wait to read the standard rhetoric..."do to the decline in housing, credit, banking & vendor service/reset companies, we feel that we're in great position but we don't know where we are...does that make sense everyone"
Investor 1: "uhmm, Mr Stone, may I see the real Balance sheet?"
Stone: eehh, (long static pause),whatever....asshole".
Investor 2: "yes, uhhmm Larry, I see gross margins are impressive, so that being said are you investing in American products or is the reality you have flashy advertising of quality products & that 75% are cheap, copied imports from China?"
Stone: "whats wrong with a little lead...asshole"

Given that lowes sells lead in 50lbs rolls I wouldn't knock china on lead..we've had recalls in peanut butter and are still investigating the tylenol poisoning from 25 years ago!
The reason why there's so much made in china is because it's cheap...it's cheap largely due to the currency rate. I've been there and I know the rate. But on the same note if people want to buy american products they can if they are willing to search and willing to pay more money.
here's one example
www.aramark-uniform.com/work-jackets.html (to note the steel guard jackets are supposed to be carhartt competition)
OK the vast majority is probably made overseas
www.filson.com I think nearly everything is domestically made
The prices are easily several times over at filson. I know obviously it isn't the same product but still.
The concept of quality and product life has a paradox. If you make something that is long lasting then the company probably won't be. Why? because there's no repeat business. If you make something that doesn't last you get repeat business (granted not happy)
The ford escort in Europe is one of the most reliable cars on the market (over there) It won the world rally twice and I personally know someone that used one on the autobahn! But Ford makes the cars on a lower standard domestically in the USA. It's not the UAW's fault or plan it's the corporate plan.
Here's a food you can't get in the USA most of the time
http://mybrands.com/BrandsHome.aspx?bid=54
Why? because it's quite filling. We're known for having cheap food relative to income for starters. I doubt they'd try to sell it competing with kellog and general mills.
One can make the argument that china makes cheaper goods that some might say are lower quality but that's the same thing Europe has been saying about our items for decades.
