Just a quick question about schedules.

Back in the day, when I worked for a disivion of RH Macy, all sales people had
set schedules that remained constant week in and week out.

We did not have a "scheduler" in our store, since everyone knew their schedule
and the Sales Manager (ie: Department Manager) would only get involved for
special sales day when we had expanded hours, or the Christmas Season when
special schedules would be posted for the extra hours.

As an example: Full Time was 5 days 9:45 to 6:00
Evening Part Time A was MWF 5:45 to 9:45, Sat 9:45 ro 6:00
Evening Part Time B was TTr 5:45 to 9:45, Sat 1:15 to 9:45, Sun 11:45 to 5:15

Day Part Time either 10:00 to 3:00 or 2:00 to 6:00, plus e/o Sunday.

That was it, plus the Flying Squad (Contingents).

That was when Macy's actually let employees have a personal life and actually paid a living wage. AND before the conculation times!

How... quaint.

That was back in the day when a one-day sale was just ONE DAY and stores kept the same hours as their customers.

Probably was also back in the day when the team member-to-customer ratio was 1:2 instead of 1:1,434,040,534 and customers didn't come "dressed" to shop looking like they spent the night in the work bay at an abandoned Jiffy Lube.

Thanks for the laught, Huds. I can remember working in my department that had, get this...4 FT associates and 5 PT associates! And this was not a whole department, just a section within the larger department. I was never, ever working alone. I could actually ASSIST the customer with their purchase, not just ring them up. Ahhh...those were the days!

aahh, yes, the good ol days. when i started with the may company "back in the day", we, too , had actual schedules. then a few years later, the BIG rumor went around that MACY's, yes you guys, started with a "rotation" schedule. we all thought, UGH !!!!!!!! what the hell kind of schedule is that ??

and now we all know, don't we ?? Shocked Shocked

it's a ridiculous schedule so NOBODY can have a life outside of work, always worrying about those doctor/dentist/hair/ WHATEVER appointments we made........will we have to change them at the last minute cuz macy's decided to have the stores open 4 extra hours so as not to inconvenience 3 customers ??

it's crazy.

and a BIG waste of money.

I know that they call it a "rotation", but I do not consider it a rotation. A ROTATION is the same for x number of weeks, then starts all over again. This is NOT a rotation!

I had a rotation with Mayco. It was great. I worked the same days and hours for three weeks, then it all started over again. I could make plans. I could make appointments. If a friend asked me if I was free a certain day, I could say yes or no.

we had something like that a couple of years ago, then a person was added to the department and threw the whole scheduling off track. It seems like the scheduling been constant for the last few months. At least we know in advance our 3-day weekend.

In my dept. the scheduler from heaven- knows -where, bases the entire schedule on the availability of the PT people!!! I think he should base the PT around the FT people! It is not my problem that the Pt person can only work Wednesday nights from 6-9 or Thurday from 9-3!!!

I'm surprised they let people pick their availability. You know what they say at my store, "Macy's is not flexible, YOU must be flexible." Also a fave, "If you can't work when we need you, this is not the job for you."

No! Full timers need to be more flexible, that is why they are full timers. Part timer can't be flexible because that is why they are part time, they might have other things to do.

There is no such thing as seniority at Macy's. The axe has come down in our store. They fired all the fitting room attendants, all but 3 merchandisers, made the fulltime recovery gals part-time. I got a call today from our merchandiser who's on vacation and she told me that HR called her today to come in tomorrow at 8:30. She's on vacation!

No one is getting a week or two weeks notice, just the axe right now.

Our mySchedulePlus is rolling out tomorrow and I'm afraid that my Monday/Wednesdays off won't be mine anymore. I've had those days off ever since I started because I go to college.

This sucks big time. Damn you Macy's.

OMG !!! i can't believe i'm agreeing with you, MONEY, but in some sort of weird way, i think you're right. Full timers .... this is their MAIN and usually ONLY job. us part timers CHOOSE to be part time because of other obligations (or just plain laziness. it doesn't matter. it's our choice.). Thumbs Up

What I am saying is, the FT people are on a rotation. Their schedule is the same week in and week out. It shouldn't be changed to fit in a PT person who can only work Wed night form 6-9. The dept doesn't NEED anyone Wed night from 6-9. If the dept NEEDED a Wed 6-9, it would be a different story. The FT rotation shouldn't be changed on a whim. Remember FT cannot request days off etc without taking a personal day.

I thought most stores had them. They've kept the ones in Juniors and Impluse, but the rest are gone.

I want to know who the hell is going to do the merchandising?
