today i see that my manager put a copy of the vacation sheet by one register. you know, the one where it's a grid and everyone has to X off the weeks they are requesting. only problem is, he then tells us it has to be IN today !!!!
WTF ?????????? it has to be IN today and you're handing it OUT today ?? he said he forgot. ok, he was on vacation last week, but then i hear in the lunchroom that form was handed out 3 weeks ago. sigh. ya see what i'm dealing with here ?? then the week i need in march is blacked out !!!! omg....just cuz it's a ODS ??? so is today and this week was not blocked out. i can only put 2 weeks in so far, as i haven't had a chance to discuss vacay time with my husband.
macy's gets worse by the day. yeh, YOU COUNT !!!!!!!!!

Yeah, we were told that we had to put in ALL of our vacation NOW! I don't know what I'm doing next week, much less for the whole year! But it can be changed.

When I worked for my other job (one that actually paid a living wage and was unionized) we had to pick our vacation the October prior to the new year.
I requested the week before easter off, but my manager hasn't approved it yet and it's been a month!

i know that, but if everyone else puts in for their weeks now, and i request a week in a few months, i'm screwed if someone else asks for that week off NOW. requesting it later is ok if someone else hasn't asked for it as well. if i put in for it now along with everyone else, at least i have seniority over all but one person in my dept. i hate this place. sigh.

Why the hell do they have to know vacations so early? I can't plan that far ahead! Things happen in life! We aren't performing life saving operations! We are selling and merchandising clothes for gods sake! Spouses have jobs, meetings etc that families have to plan around! WHY DOES MACY'S HAVE TO MAKE EVERYTHING SO DIFFICULT!

Fashion, I know some customers who'd argue that providing them coupons and dirt-cheap, poor-quality crap is lifesaving. If not a God-given right, like it's guaranteed in the Constitution or something.
As for vacations... I'm literally living week to week right now. And because I live or die on commission, I somehow have to figure when it's going to be slowest in the store in order to take the smallest financial hit. At the moment, I have no idea when that will be.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that you somehow "time stamp" the request. It's like running a race.
I hate this place too considering how they screw us without a kiss first!

I know, I am the same way about commission. How about you wait and see when I take MY vacation, because it will for sure be the busiest week in the entire year!!! That's my kinda luck!! Once upon a time they used to pay us a benefit rate for vacation time!! Those were the good ole days!

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR ANY/EVERYONE:
are we allowed to take 2 weeks together ? i know at our may co. store it was a big deal and you could do it with permission if you convinced them you were going on a big trip somewhere.
i thought for sure i read that we ARE allowed to take 2 weeks together. a gal in my dept took 2 weeks last summer to go to France, so i'm sure it can be done.
my gsm said they (gsm's) are not allowed to take 2 weeks together. i told him associates CAN. i'm going when it will be waaaaay before people really start going away.
oh, now i remember a gsm that went away to japan every year and it was definitely MORE than 1 week.
if anyone can let me know,,,,, i would appreciate it !!! Norma Rae

As far as I know, you CAN take 2 weeks together if you need it for a trip. But things change every minute with this company!

Can someone please clear up the Paid Holiday situation for me?
We used to be able to request ANOTHER day off with pay, instead of being paid on the holiday if we are off on the holiday. Now I am being told that we can no longer do this. Is this correct?

I have seen associates take 2 weeks together all the time! But I am sure it is one of those things that if they like you, you can, and if they don't you can't!
Not sure about the paid holiday deal. I think much of that changed when they gave us those "floating holidays".

this is from the wonder land of east division..MACYS dont pay for july 4th, memorial day..labor day..and new years..those extra days floating holidays is for 3 of those holidays..YOU MUST WORK TWO..but you also could use those days on something else if you choose too..I prefer to work on memorial and new years..I will use floating on the rest of those days..if you work any of those HOLIDAYS you get pay for them time and half.. THANK YOU FOR SHOPPING AT MACYS AND HAVE AN OUTSTANDING DAY.. TEAM WINS..if you notice your floating holidays are prorated to the average hours you work..so hence if you got cut bad like I did I lost half hour extra and MACYS WINS..again those bast**ds

now instead of floating holidays, we all get the 7 floating days. they have replaced the holidays and personal days. you can use these floaters ANY day that you put in for them.

They added 12 hours extra per week to my floating holidays and vacation. I like the new policy, It make everything equal. If you do more hours, you should get more time off. Its not fair if someone takes 6 months off and still get full benefits.

Money, I have never heard of anyone taking 6 months off and still getting full benefits. Actually, I haven't heard of ANYONE still getting full benefits. Even ft people are not getting a full day's pay for paid days.

so get this. i found out, associates CANNOT take 2 weeks together UNLESS YOU ARE GOING OUT OF THE COUNTRY.
WTF ?????????????? i'm almost certain that rule is coming from our SM , NOT macy's itself.
there is an associate who is gone for at least a month now, and she's still on the schedule with no hours posted. i'm sure she will come back at the same rate.
what gives with that, MLB >>>> or FRANKONE :::::: OR KAREN SCOTT ......... ANYONE KNOW ????
BUT YOU CAN take personal days after your vacation week for the 2nd week, just not another vacay week. what the hell is the difference ????

And they'll know... how?
I'm going to test this by SAYING I'm off to Myanmar for two weeks. But go on a ridiculous bender instead.
