Have any of you seen this in your stores? Area HR has had a field day in our store reviewng files and pulling people in for things over 6 months old, and then firing these people.
Example - one girl was written up for attendance but produced a doctor's note after the write up, and this happened last October! Yesterday she was called in and fired and was given her attendance as the reason. She worked there for 2 years!
Same thing happened with a dept mgr a few weeks ago, over an arguement from 5 months ago!
It seems, if the company can eliminate one empoylee making $18 an hour from every store, they would be saving about $3.5 million every pay period! By firing, they do not have to risk increasing their contributions to Unemployment Insurance.
Just curious if any of you have noticed this "random dredging" in your stores.

Lowes rarely does "lay offs". They cut back hours on part-timers until they voluntarily quit, thus no unemployment benefits. If you are fired by Lowes, you can appeal to the state board on unemployment. A hearing is set and Lowes must produce a valid reason for dismissal. This is a common practice in retail and the service block. As for attendance, it depends who you are. I have been questioned about 1 day absence in a 18 month period but others takes days off well beyond company guidelines and they are never called into question about absenteeism. Welcome to the world of favorism.
