hello all
Do you all have the same issue where they don't "promote to zone within your same store." ? Or the store manager wanting to promote you but DM says no wait for next opening??

ok here's a few things

1) If you are zm trained and there's an opening they can ONLY hold you two pay periods. Meaning no one can prevent you from moving up. a sm can't prevent it...a district manager can't prevent it either

2) Most promotions won't ever happen within a store. There's too many openings outside of it. Don't get me wrong sometimes you can move up but there's probably only so far within a given store you can go. Also with the training expiring after a few months this makes it far higher

3) The might train people that frankly won't move up. By denying training it denies promotions.

I beg to differ that this type of behavior occurs much more frequently with female canidates.

Yes I'm female, but I think too many promises were made to other people within the district and here we go round and round again.
Supposedly there will be another opening soon..Im just going to wait for someone to screw up, get fired, move, get promoted, etc.

That part right there confirms the "good ole boy club" mentality. There shouldn't be any promises made to anyone before a position is posted and available.

I think that a huge part of the problem is there are so many MTP graduates that are waiting, but very few positions are opening up. As with any other position, interview as much as you can, so if you don't get hired you can ask them what you need to work on, or what they were looking for.

I heard from someone who's now an admin that there was (this was a few years ago) 100 mtp grads nationwide...well here's the thing. You have those and say open up a smaller store that's just only need 2 zm's.

although mtp does expire after what...six months?

Theres a lot more then 100 mtp grad in the country, theres at least 75 in my region alone. MTP is good for either 12 or 18 months...I forget which. But with 20 -50 per regional class, twice a year, they start adding up.

From what I understand is that if someone doesn't move to another store emtp and mtp expire in six months.

The idea of an expiration of passing a corporate learning center is stupid. It doesn't make that much sense because it is imply what you are doing somehow is getting replaced but yet there's not much of an upgrade on things. Degrees don't get phazed out after a few months so the logic fails.

MTP expires in 12 months. I'm not sure about EMTP but I believe that may be the 12 months also since most of our EMTP grads were promoted when they did away with TL's.

Update. At the District managers request they are sending me to another store in the district to be appl and cabinet dept. manager. Seems I do need to be at another store if i want to come back to my current store as ZM..

A word of advice as appliance and cabinets department manager. Do not become obsessed with selling appliances just for the spiffs. Hand every sale over to the specialists in the department that actually are rated off of sales. You'll keep the peace and be able to get promoted to ZM without complaints. Make certain to ask each customer if they were working with someone and insure that you invoice items under the correct salesman#.

How come you can't apply to jobs outside your region? I wouldn't mind moving back closer to family but it won't let me apply outside the region except to a neighboring district.

If this is a promotion the company doesn't want to pay moving expenses. They are cutting down on expenses all over the company. Not even SMT's are getting transferred outside of their regions.

If thats the case they probably want you to stay in the district since most jobs in the region you would have to move for.
