What is the deal with these return labels that we have to put in every single item that we ring up?I was on vacation and came back to this...just more work for us and for what to make returns easier? you would think that macys would focus more on sales not returns ,lets make our customers wait in longer lines now...ok that makes perfect sense....really stupid Doh!

Actually, the return labels are a good thing. When someone wants to make a return, all of the info is in the barcode. Also, if there is no return label, and they don't have a receipt, then it probably didn't come from macy's! Stolen merch should also be harder to return, since there would be no crl. If the purchase was made more than 180 days ago, that info will also be in the crl.
I love CRLS!
My only complaint is that when you are doing a return, and you are suppossed to scan the CRL, but there is none, you can just hit enter, and the lowest price in 30 days will come up. IMO, that defeats the purpose of the CRL's. If it was my store, no CRL, no return!

I will say you will get used to it. We have been doing it for quite awhile now. It was a pain at first but then it becomes second nature.

Out west, we've always used them. It's a big pain in the arse when merchandise comes from the east coast for a return with NO receipt. Some of the Macy's only merchandise (Charter Club, Style & Co, American Rag, etc) has a second bar code on the tag. That's the CRL. The last four digits of the CRL also appear on the receipt. Makes it real easy for adjustments if the customer tries to cheat.

I always put a CLR on the tag no matter if it's a Macy's item. The numbers are in sequential order, so identifying returns from the same transactions are easy too. (our returns are limited to individual transactions)

Ya they shouldnt be able to do a return without one I agree, but they will ....lol atleast in my store ,I work in shoes and alone most of the time people waiting for shoes were getting pissed ,I had a customer with tons of clothes and was unaware of the change at the time ,I figured it out by the roll of labels at the register haha ...oh well maybe I will get used to it..

Now I've been out of the loop in regards to CRL's. Are they now up to date when you scan them they pull up the entire info including the merchandise UPC? The biggest problem with those things was that you had to have a UPC to scan because it needed to match the merchandise.

just like everything else, You'll need to educate the customers on the CRL. Tell them it's the return receipt and that the SKU and CRL work TOGETHER. Customers need to know they need both bar codes to secure the purchase price.

Of course, we know they are so stupid that they won't listen.

So it works the same way back when I use to work for the company. The only problem with the CRL is if they don't have the SKU especially with fine jewelry. We had to attach the a special CRL but because customers were so picky about the price we had to remove the price tag off so when the came in to return it we didn't know how much the item was because there was no SKU.

Yes I also came from vacation when I notice the CRL. It is a pain. It is going to be worse during the one day sale. We have an excuse to be slow during the one day sale now. We are way to busy for this in our store. I had a $1000 sale yesterday, about 40-50 items, It took me about 20-30 mins, ring items, put crl stickers, bag, and I had to call credit for approval and do payment. I had to tell everybody they would have to go to a different line. Lines will get back up. In domestic customers will buy 10 of the same pillows or towals with same UPC, we would had scan 1 pillow 10 times, not no more with these tag. These tags sucks.

Macys will lose customers in our store because these CRL tags, we are one of the busiest macys in the company, and our staffing got cut this year.

Money, you cannot be saying anything bad about Macy's, can you???
We have been using these for a long time. It will get easier. Pull some of the CRL's off the roll first and stick them on the tickets before you start to ring. That may make it easier.

During some our busiest days when we have more ringers than registers (yes, it does happen) have an associate take a foot or two off the roll and put CRL's on customer merchandise who's in line. I think we call it "line busting." This way when the customer get to the register, the CRL's are already attached.

Trust us here out west, it DOES GET EASIER!

The worse thing that can happen is scanning the CRL when it's still on the roll.

one question: how did you folks do returns in the past???

It doesn't matter where you bought them. If you complain long enough and get the right manager, Macy's will return anything!

You are absolutely correct. A woman wanted to return a children's dress yesterday claiming she bought it in another department, by a "foreigner who probably didn't know how to do her job!" NO CRL, NO RECEIPT, no nothing. I'm thinking she grabbed the dress off the rack and stuffed it in her Target bag. I was so pissed after that racial comment, I called for a manager to deal with her. Of course the manager let her return it for about 80% of retail value.

We did the returns with just the RECEIPT or credit card.

you see ?? this is exactly what i'm talking about in the "big changes in my store" thread above, MONEY.

the rule is you are NOT SUPPOSED to scan 1 item 10 times. you MUST scan each piece individually - ALWAYS. this has been the rule for YEARS. now you're gonna have to do things by the book. poor money. Confused

um... stupid question.....

when it is really slow in the store - as it usually is in my store- and i am bored out of my tree....

why not go around and put those frigging stickers on stuff so it is ready when customers pick em off the rack ? it would be much quicker.

You could do that. But then if something is stolen, it would still have a return label. On the other hand, all Macy's merch. has a return label on the tag, so I guess it doesn't matter.
