I don't know if I can handle anymore "big changes". How much change can a lowly sales associate handle???
I hear that Macy's is "going green" in August. That should be interesting, b/c when I mentioned that we should donate the cosmetics that were about to be crused to a local women't shelter, I was told that there would be too much paperwork involved!

OMG, Macy's going green? This is the company who ships a cardboard box with one tiny piece of merchandise in it and 50 sheets of paperwork for the one piece!! I refuse to ask customers to donate to one more charity so Macy's looks good!
Your cosmetic idea for the shelters is a good one!
Our store throw out chairs, sofas, tables etc when we remodeled. They could have easily been given away to a charitable organization. We have employees who could have used them too! But no, they threw them into the dumpster.

That is almost a crime - I've seen some of the furniture that Macy's has for store use.. Their display tables or fitting room couches are often really nice. You could sale them for $50 and thats more than what you'd have made throwing them away.
Fashion - Macy's isn't alone. What I witnessed Lowe's and Home Depot throw away, it is criminal. Display door knobs, light fixtures, etc.. I watched Home Depot throw over a $1000 in display light fixtures away in one change.

Funny you should mention changes in August. Oh how I hate rumors, but I heard....
We who are out west, will have an all black dress code just like the east, and closed toe shoes only. The announcement will be made on Monday.
and.....
One of our associates traveled to Michigan for vacation and shopped. She tried to use her coupons but they told her no, since the coupons were issued in the west. She insisted on talking to a manager, but still refused her request. (I know if we have a customer from another division who wants to use a coupon, we take it no matter where they're from.)
and.....
That employees will not be able to use any discounts at all when shopping.
So, will that, any truth to all "our" rumors?

Well, welcome to funeral home attire! I thought that all of Macy's wore black. We can still wear open toe shoes. It's way too hot for closed toe.
We do take coupons from any division, it would be poor customer service not to do so.
Also, they just started allowing us to use any and all coupons, so I don't see them taking that away already.
I don't know, but I have heard that the changes will involve the company going green. My OPS was making a big deal that everyone should have direct deposit.
Today is Aug 1st, so the cat should be out of the bag soon!

About the only good thing in my work day at Macy's is being able to wear open toe shoes.

so what happens if an employee only HAS ONE BLACK SHIRT??? (black doesn't do me good) I've already replaced my wardrobe once because of a 25 lb. weight loss, I'm not going to replace it again.
any and all coupons? when we actually get them in the mail. Usually when there's a coupon in the newspaper, it's a UYC sale. Yea, since conversion, coupons have MORE restrictions. (Lauren/Polo never used to be excluded in kids dept.)
I hate my job.

Well, now that we wear black everyday, I never even notice what people are wearing. It just looks black. You could wear the same shirt everyday, and no one would notice. But you might start to smell...
They have 50% on anything black for work sales, so you can get your black clothes then. I HATE buying black clothes. Ugh. The worst part is when I have somewhere to go right after work.
We can use all coupons now, even the $10.00 off ones that are in the paper sometimes.

They are going to test a program in Wisconsin and Illinois that prohibits Macy's employee's from wearing open toed shoes and thongs.

You can wear a different colored shirt if you have on a black vest, jacket, cardigan, etc over the colored shirt. Pants or skirts have to be black tho.

yes, we have been all black since 2006 here in the east. it is faster to get dressed. just throw a black top/skirt/pants together. i decided to live on the edge the other day with a black top and a grey/purple muted plaid skirt. i come in and there is a freaking visit !! but i think the suits were too busy focusing on the selling floor to notice me. they did not even acknowledge me. i always have solid black on, tho many associates have prints (not pinstripes, but prints) with black & white.
our may company store always prohibited open toe shoes for safety - try dropping a stapler on your toes for a fun experience and you'll never wear open toed shoes again. but macy's does allow sandals, just not thongs. (SORRY, MACYLADY, NO THONGS FOR YOU--- TOO SEXY-- your register always has the longest lines...now we know why !!!)
other changes ??? visual told me they are going to use the MAY CO. plan of visuals, not macy's. macy's was always symmetrical---shelves on the wall for example..may did them asymmetrical--- geez i never noticed all these years.
i heard we are going to get more hours for extra associates for fall....hmmmmmm what else ??
that's all i know for now.

oh yea, a jacket, cardigan or vest OVER colored shirts? Post-menopausal women have a difficult time wearing only one top, let alone two.
Where's my personal portable fan??

Wait a minute? Bell your in the west in a particularly warm state if I'm not mistaken. I know how hot it is here on the opposite coast, and I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a coat in the summer here in Georgia! OY!

You don't have to wear a coat or vest if your top is black.

If the store was at a constant 60 degrees, then maybe three pieces.

for california and wisconsin, it's a DARK DRESS CODE... so you can wear anything that is a dark color... they want it to go effect in all doors by jan 2010.. Some stores might do it as early as august. Also, scorecards are being introduced to macys west. Those are the big changes coming to former MCW.

1) false
2) it was probably the $10 off $10 birthday coupon since that coupon has the "division error" or the $10 off $30 birthday coupon. (can manually take it off POS and staple duplicate receipt attached to the coupon and put it in the media)
3) false

Our "scorecards" were introduced last week and go into effect on Friday. Of course our manager hasn't actually sat down with us to discuss what the "scorecard" entails.

That seems very confusing. So you can wear dark pink, dark red, dark blue, dark yellow, dark green, dark orange, dark purple, dark brown and dark grey? Who is going to police this? Where do they come up with these things. There are other business aspects they should be worrying about!
