I know we all have those days where the customer/management really pisses us off. So instead of going off topic on other threads, here's a thread to "get it off your chest."
Who's first?

Right now, what's bugging me is that Macy's keeps hiring these people off of the street that will work for min. wage, but they don't do anything, and the "old timers" are expected to do their jobs well, while these dummies just stand at the register and ring!

This is exactly why I played hooky yesterday. I'm tired of the newbies/flyers to stand and ring all day (asking you a question every 5 minutes) and us "seasoned" workers do all the go-backs. Then our sales suffer.

One day, my manager asked me why my sales for a certain day were X, while the girl that worked for me had much higher sales. I listed everything that I did that day, from folding the tables to checking the fitting rooms, putting back holds, straitening, etc. He could look at the dept and know that it was true. He didn't say anything else.

My mgr showed us our scorecards today. As he was explaining it, I was envisioning this upcoming holiday season with all the newbies standing at the registers and ringing their little hearts out, while we (old-timers) are re-folding tables, cleaning fitting rooms, dusting and everything else except ringing up sales. We were told to focus on IPS (items per sale), that means we are to follow "A" customer around and force them to buy more than one item, because it's been proven the more time you spend with 1 customer, leads to multiple items per sale as opposed to just standing at the register and ringing one item at a time. I don't agree at all. By the time you follow that customer and if they don't want to buy anymore than, say...a tie and shirt or skirt and blouse, you could be ringing up $$$$ amounts which doesn't count toward your IPS. Plus with all the time you spend with a customer, then you happen to walk away for some odd reason, who gets the sale???? The newbie at the register! I'm not putting up with it this year. It's all B.S. We do not have the kind of customers that want to be followed around. There is no such thing as "my" customer or "your" customer. Does anyone else have this prob at their store?

My GSM doesn't want me to be so "task oriented". She knows I cringe when the floor isn't picked up. I tell her I put myself in the customers place, where I want to shop in a clean, organized store. But everyday we're looking more and more like Kohl's.
There are only three of us working in kids. We clean up after the slobs and to top it off: we have to help the merchandiser because she can't tell the difference between girls size 4T and girls 14!
The T stands and 4-ways are so full that when a yacht stroller squeezes between the rows, the clothes fall onto the ground and mom just ignores them and runs over the items.

The IPT thing drives me crazy. I always have wishy washy customers who change their minds after you have rung up one item and decide to get another item. I want to make them wait while I void the first item and ring them both together! I see their reasoning behind the scorecards, but i think part time and full time should be rated separately.

how about those indecisive customers who bring a shit pile of items to ring? "Could you please tell me the price when you ring them?" THE POS PAD SHOWS THE PRICE, LADY!
(the friggin' price scanner is 3 ft. away from them) And I swear, when something is $9.99, they don't want it. Then they can't make up their mind once I hit the T1 button.
Oh, and don't get me started on those price scanners. Lazy ass people. We had a whole pile of clothes on the Greendog table from people checking prices and just dumping the clothes wherever.
You know, we've got awful working conditions.

Or the ones who want everything rung up separately. One on macy's, one check, one cash, one Visa etc. That does wonders for your IPT.

I never thought of that. Thanks. Next time, I'll suggest to suspend the transaction so they can finish shopping. I'm gonna pass that along to my dept. buds tomorrow.

first of all, the GSM'S should manage their floors and make sure OCA'S, new hires, and any associate is not just standing behind the register ringing. if i am walking the store and see any associate just standing behind a register doing nothing, i would say something. there is always things that can be accomplished on the floor.
what bugs me though....is working with people that are not that bright. one of my superiors is not that bright...i am being nice...and i am much smarter than she is. i like using "big" words sometimes because she does not know what i am saying.
i can tell you that macy's is full of dumb people in positions of power....lol
when is the chat room opened??????

Very very rarely happens. Most GSM's do not like confrontation.
They look the other way.

we have a chat room??? where????
BTW, a couple of us were standing by the register last week and a service manager got on us. She failed to see that we just cleaned out the fitting room from the little slobs and hanging up the clothes.
If we are out on the floor, a customer comes up, doesn't see anyone, and moves on to another register. We can stay close, but our department is so spread out and most of the time during the week we are by ourselves. I'm old and my feet hurt!

I had a good one today:
Two women were returning two items; no receipt. I scanned the first CRL (our item), then sku. Pops up "unreceipted returns..., then the other item(Hello Kitty shirt), same thing. I walked over to the display where the first item was to find out how much. I found the price on the floor! Then I looked at the CRL on the Hello Kitty shirt. The number of the CRL was about 5 before where I was on the roll. I called a manager who turned it over to LP. Sure enough, they stole the items and the CRL!! Bitches!
Then later on, two other women were switching tags to return expensive items. The GSM's followed them throughout the store and after awhile, they just left.
Is my store a target or what? Don't they know to steal when it's real busy? Oh yea, they do that too!
What a night!

MLB, I KNOW what you are saying! My store used to be run on a "buddy" system, and people that had NO BUSINESS getting promotions were promoted b/c they were "friends" with so and so. As a result, many of us sales associates are more educated than the managers, and even OPS manager of our store! It's a shame. Luckily, we have a very good SM now, and he has put a stop to this. It is very hard to work under people that do not know anything!

I hate it when customers already see the sale price and they want an extra discount on top of that! We should call the company Wal-Macy's and watch out for falling prices!

Well you'll have to see if this site still lasts before anyone moves over there permanently. It'll take some time!
