Went in yesterday for my big 5 hour shift to hear the news that hours have been cut for this week, and the DM is planning to cut larger for next week. Layouts are not getting done, and freight is piling up but hey according to store manager aka, "the terrible tot" sales are great and everyone is getting a raise at this store. SAY WHAT??? Don't know if they are still hiring but it wouold not surprise me if they are.

Hours seem to be a tough commodity everywhere. The REGION VP had a conference call some time ago, and mandated that there will ALWAYS be a cashier in every CAC. Sounds great for those working in HI, for example. Until, that is, the CAC lead is told by the Ops guy that there aren't enough hours to do it.
Or in my business, we'll frequently have 80 or so hours to cover the 90 we're open weekly. Challenging to say the least.

|

They've been pulling the CAC in every cash wrap since they went with the CAC title 2002. And as soon as they are short a CAC HI is the place where they pull from. Then they want more with less hours as usual. Then the remaining CACs still get to play MCA.
They've screwed up the CAC title since it's inception in 2002 thanks to the golf ball executives that allledgedly planned it out. Not only is the title misused the CACs themselves are frequently misused or abused by playing with hours, pressured for apps and being shuffled all around. AND payed less than most other retailer's cashiers.
The CAC should've been more a customer service representative. The emphasis should've been on bill payments, questions and general merchandise like clothing.
There's a faction in retail management that believes controlling costs is the only way to make a profit. You need to watch and pay attention to costs which is much different from eliminating them. But then this has been going on for 7 years at this point. DECLINES have followed.
Thanks Again Alan , the Lacy legacy lives.

what amazes me is that they are still telling the ESC on my daughters claim that the hours are there all she has to do is ask for them. I don't know how long they think that story will fly.

I was originally scheduled five hours to put out freight this morning. That changed yesterday when the DM demanded that each store have someone run Bluelight announcements all weekend; now I work five hours this afternoon. So, the lessen here is that the hours really do exist: they just pull them from another area.

In Solomon's illustration: Wouldn't it be a shame if the Bluelight merchandise was stuffed in receiving along with the freight that should be making it to the floor? Not completely impossible. But notice how "appearance" seems to outweigh real priorities, once again? And after the weekend, the DM will tour receiving and complain about the freight backed up ---- conveniently "forgetting" about his reapportioning of hours.
Things never change.
