The constitution states that "Bills of Attainder are Banned." This means that the bill as passed is more than likely unconstitutional, and won't hold up to constitutional law if challenged. In order for this bill to be constitutional, it will have to apply to ALL government contractors, and all federal money. This is where this bill is going to come back to bite the republicans.

ACORN has been shown to be ripe with fraud, and I have no problem with not funding them. Funding could have been denied, funding is deneid to agencies all over the place, but instead the republicans, looking for a political touchdown, decided to write specific legislation denying ACORN and any of its affiliates funds. Here is the text of the bill http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h3571/text

By doing this, they have opened up a whole can o worms I am sure they had no intention of opening. Where the Defund Acorn Act says it will cut off funding for "organizations that has ever been indited for breaking campaign finance Laws" or "Filed fraudulent paper-work with any state or federal agency," it must apply to all contractors in order to be constitutional, they can't specifically target ACORN.

So, given the wording, here are some companies that would also be cut off from federal funding:

Lockheed Martin
11 Separate Counts of Government Contract Fraud

Northrop Grumman
9 Separate Counts of Government Contract Fraud

Blackwater
Contract Fraud
Murder of Iraqi Civilians

KBR
Under Investigation for US Troop Deaths

ArmorGroup
Prostitution Ring
Fraud
Lewd Behavior (Nude Parties on the Job)

DynCorp
Involvement in an Underage Girl Prostitution Ring!

Funny what the unintended consequences can wind up being by doing something just to prove a point.

The idea is to gore the other guy's ox and try to ensure that your own doesn't get horned. Not sure they can pull thatt off with this extremely sloppily written bill.

nofs -gore the other guy's ox more

Yeap, this bill is nothing but grandstanding so the pols can appear or SEEm like they're on top of things. It's darn near a diversion because if they do prosecute all those mentioned by Calapso would come up. AND by taking legislative action rather than prosecutorial they're hoping everyone will forget because they already ' took care of it ' .
