A couple of decades ago, Walmart's treatment of employees was notably worse than many other employers. The others have raced to the bottom so quickly Walmart looks good by comparison. It's a good time to start hating corporate employers in general.

Been saying that for a while now. A LONG while. It's just become so fashionable to hate Walmart for so many reasons... all of them perfectly justifiable.... that some folks don't realize that Walmart has been outdistanced in the crappy treatment of employees by many other bog box retailers, and I won't even ask you to guess which one most likely leads the pack.

It's kind of like Sears employees, being trampled into the mud, need desperately to believe there is someone worse off than they are so THEY will have someone to "look down on".

Actually, the company has said many many times: "We need to remain competitive.", which was another way of saying if Walmart dumps crap on their workers, we need to dump MORE crap. At SHC, it's as much a part of enhancing the return for shareholders as selling more merchandise would be for a REAL retailer.

I don't think Walmart is perfect but considering what's going on at other retailers like Sears and Kmart Walmart is not ' that ' evil anymore.

And one the thing Walmart has done strategically and legally is made enough changes to stay competitive AND hire employees and give benefits & pay that many other retailers don't give.

If you think about all the changes Walmart has made since 2000 and compare them to Sears and Kmart Walmart looks like the boyscout here.

And Walmart realizes that price counts. Everytime they have tried moving up a notch or two in many price categories and start loosing they QUICKLY adjust. Sears has yet to perfect a price structure for the Grands after almost a decade of experiments and deployment.

I don't think Walmart is totally reformed or perfect but at least they are willing to change even if in press releases only.
