really ?? is it really 4 AM??? for all stores ??-except downtown stores of course.
i had an interview last week for the PERFECT perfect job for me. i am so disappointed that i didn't get it...you don't know.
the only thing, and i mean the ONLY thing keeping me at macy's is the money. but when i find a better situation, i am ready to walk. |
They can't be paying you that much for you to stay.
A fellow associate called me last night and told me she got, get this, a $.04 raise! Can you believe this shit? WTF? It takes more $$ to do the paper work. She's the top credit/sales producer in our dept. and this is the gratitude she gets. She told me, what's the point in trying. She was pissed royally. |
oh wow. i think i truly would have spit on the paper the raise was printed on.
ok, i'm not making MAJOR bucks...remember i am only part time. but i am a former may company employee and we all got very good raises over the years compared to many macy's employees. i am not finding jobs paying me what i am making now anywhere. what i am trying to do is change my situation. if i find a job that will be more interesting, challenging, etc and the hours are better (they ARE out there !), the money is not as important.

it is after midnight and i know the new schedule is out with black friday week, but NO WAY will i look at it now. i'd never get to sleep... i know i'll be soooooooo pissed when i see it. i'll look at it just before i go to work tomorrow.
i wanted to let my manager know today that she should NOT expect me to be in earlier than normal (9:30). even that is pushing it. i will tell her point blank, that she should change me to later.. no 5, 6, 7, 8 ,9 :00 crap, because i WILL NOT BE those times. i will call in and be late. will it count as a late check in ?? absolutely. do i care ? no. so if she wants to cover herself and have a body there on black friday, she should change my hours with someone else. she KNOWS it is hard for me to work those early days. there ARE other people in my dept who want to work early and get out early. end of story.

There's NO way I can get up that early. Last year I worked closing and it was just as bad. Big mess left from the morning rush. I'm trying to get that Friday off. (I won 3 days off w/pay in spring, so I want Black Friday off)
If worse comes to worse, I'll do it, but I'll take my 3 days either after Christmas or for inventory.

7:30 to 4;30 on fri and 7:00 to 4:00 on saturday.
don't think so.
she wasn't in today so i left a note that she has to change me as i WON"T be in before 9:30 or so. i'll be out of town on thursday till friday a.m.
there has to be 15 AT LEAST IF NOT MORE, I AM NOT JOKING...at least 15-20 people on the schedule for friday in my dept. c'mon now. she couldn't have scheduled the on calls to come in early ??/ WTF ???????
that pisses me off more than ANYTHING !!!!!! give your regulars a break. leave them in the hrs they usually work and put the on calls super early and late. if they don't like it, f**k em.

That's what I think too, leave everyone's schedule basically the same and work the seasonals around them. Isn't that what seasonals are for???

Thats what I think too! In my store the seasonals are getting prime hours while the regular people are getting the early mornings and late nights! I have said it 1000 times, WOULDN'T YOU RATHER HAVE YOUR EXPERIENCED EMPLOYEES HERE DURING THE BUSIEST TIMES!!!?????

yes.... i truly don't know what the fuck is wrong is macy's.... may company did the same exact thing. !!!!!
let's piss off your most VALUED people even more and give us the shitty hours and the newbies who will only be here 6 weeks or so.........give them the good hours. WTF???
someone PUH LEEZE tell me why the hell they do that ??
is it cuz they know they can count on us to come in no matter what and they really aren't sure that the newbies and oncalls will really drag their butts in early ???
that is the only reasoning i can think of.
sorry for the swear words above........it just pisses me off to no end !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I don't have a problem with your language. I figure we can't swear at work at the customers, so we take out our frustrations here. I'm thankful for this board. (I thought it was funny yesterday when I was talking to my GSM and she dropped the F bomb)
I've talked to some fellow "seasoned" associates and they wouldn't mind coming in early for the simple reason to go home earlier.
In our store for the past three years, people actually run into the store. Our store is very crowded at 5-8 am because Penney's and Sears open early too. For the past two years, we've had the local TV station down at the store interviewing our SM. It's comical because he doesn't know what's going on when it comes to the merchandise we have. What a buffoon.

What is so upsetting is, I like the rest of you are so frustrated with the whole scheduling scam and the holiday season hasn't even started yet!! I am going to be a lunatic by the end of this year! The seasonals are already driving me crazy. The GSM's and their outstandings, and what is your goal, and how many TFS and how many loyalty are about to put me over the edge. I am starting to answer their questions with, I DON"T KNOW! I have no idea how many loyalty I am doing today because it depends on how many customers I have. And get outta my space!!

Just curious, but do you know you work in retail and that it's Christmas? Seriously, why don't you just do a shift swap with someone who wants to work earlier, if there are so many people who do?

i have to jump on frank's coat tails....it is retail. do i think 5 am is early, yes i do, but what can be done?? beleive me, my store is not a 5am store and we tried to have it changed, but were told no! we could open at 7 and it would still be dead.
as a person who is heavily involved in the scheules in my building, let me say a couple of things about the schedules.
first, the schedules are generated by coporate and the planners. i believe if you are normally scheduled early on friday,
this is why you have been scheduled to come in at 4:30am.
also, the scheduling manager should be working with your gsm to ensure the best coverage at peak times and look at the trend of your store. for example, we are an afternoon store, so i have a lot of staff during the afternoon hours. that day, i have one to open in each department and then layer the rest of the associates...by that i mean, a person in at 6, one at 7, and so on.
oca's and seasonal associates are not used to give base associates a "break". seasonal will be scheduled early as we proceed during the holiday seasons. oca's are used for hours that can not be filled and are scheduled based on their availabilty and the needs of the store.
bell, balck friday is a black out period and you can not be given a paid day off. when you recieved those days in the spring, i would have hoped that somebody reviewed when you could use them.

so i left a note for my gsm and i could not believe it. she DID switch me to 9 on friday and 9:30 on sat. wow. wonder of all wonders...must be the majic of macy*s.
i DID see an associate that is scheduled only 1-6 on saturday. i don't know who it is, but i put in for a swap request anyway. what the hell ??/ maybe they would like more hours... if they don't, no big woop. wup ? anyway.....
i did tell her that i couldn't be in before 9:30 on friday tho, so i might still be 1/2 hr later. i'll see.

OUCH 5:00 A.M. openings! Which dumbass thought this one up especially since some stores don't any high traffic until the afternoon. It's going to be a ghost town for the first few hours for some Macy's who don't get alot of morning business. Personally I prefer my beauty sleep so no thank you to Black Friday!

Our mall gets the 5am traffic. Sears, Penneys all open early. We will get customers.

Not the mall I work at. It's a downtown location. I remember during these sales that the first three hours we catered to the homeless, junkies, hookers, and anyone that might have been from a mental institution before any real customers came in.
