Look, I'm not saying this just to say it...but if it's really that bad, you need to find another job. There is one out there somewhere with people that can treat you better, gage.

gageglame,
You should go and look for a new job. No one is stopping you from doing that.

I kinda hear where gage is coming from, but the more they speak, the more insane we realize this person is. Gage, I've been working in this hell hole for 24 years. If I ever got to the point of dispairity you have reached, I would be gone. Weather we realize it or not, we all have the same store manager. They are all the same, just that some are smart enough to use verbage that works in their favor and gives a positive attitude and some just don't give a damn and leaves a negative attitude. And, of course, their attitude is "If you don't like it, leave." But believe me, the goal for all of them is the same.
I thought the meeting was a good, make us feel warm and fuzzy inside just to get us positive for the 4th quarter. Some people grumbled that it should have been held before the store opened (ours was after the store closed), to me it didn't matter. I pretty much quit trying to figure the company out. I just go in and take what they deal out. I have many frustrations with this company. It doesn't do any good to stew over them. I finally reached the point that I am not there for them. I am there for me. I am there to make money and take care of customers. I will get to their "tasks" when I find the time. I spent too much time worrying about what they would do to me if I didn't get to all the things they want. I don't care anymore. Customer comes first, tasks second.
My advice to you Gage, quit and don't look back. If you really feel that beaten up, quit. If a dog keeps getting whipped, they run away. I think it's time to run away

Funny. I seemed to have mentioned to this person that they should leave, on this thread. They didn't listen to the simple advice given there because foolish pride got in the way. Don't expect them to listen now.

Tool God, all the simple advice in the world is worthless if you have no where to leave to. Don't you think I would leave it it were at all humanly possible?? My medical provider has already told me it's the worst place healthwise I could be working. It is a hostile work enviroment and not at all likely to change. But jobs aren't just jumping out of the woodwork. That is what they counted on. Most of these corporations simply have too much control and power.
Now I don't consider a person doing what they have to do as insane and I know commonsense from BS when I'm looking it in the face. A shiny new shopping cart does this company no use if the customer isn't there, and the merchandise isn't on the shelf, let alone if the cash register doesn't even work to take the customers money.

How do you know if you haven't tried? You can say it all you want, but until you DO IT, it's just words.

Tool god, I have tried and I'm still trying. But I know for a fact that this store is blacklisting employees if you try to leave with anyone they put in an application with. It would be very hard to explain where I've been in the last 9 years in the workforce without admitting I wortked for Kmart. It's illegal, yes, but they are doing it and getting away with it. I'm not going to debate this with you any longer except to say don't judge until you have been there..

They can't say anything if a potential employer calls other than yes, or no, you do work there or did work there, and wether or not they would re-hire you. They can't embelish anything more than that. You could have stolen merchandise from them, and they won't say anything about it. It's thier HR rule #1. They do this specifically to avoid lawsuits. If they are doing it and getting away with it, it's due to no one having the balls or brains to call them on it, which is crazy because there would be a tidy little some of money if someone did.

Calypso, Like hell they can't. A young lady who was an electronics associate put in an application with another company and the HR there told her that the store manager and personel told them she had been smoking marijuana in the electronics department and that was the reason she left. They embellished it to make this other HR think they had this ytoung lady on camera doing that. Since when have some of the people working for this company EVER followed the rules?? they are not supposed to retailiate against uyou for calling the integrity hotline, but they do.

Gage, have you ever been homeless and wondering where in the heck your next meal was coming from? Both things kind of leave an impact on you that you never forget. I would know, since after my divorce that is precisely where I ended up. Now, I had two options open to me. The first option would be to simply give in and live in a cardboard box and depend on handouts. Or I could go with the second option and pick myself up by the bootstraps and get my ass in a better place.
Obviously I chose the latter.
Now, I could continue on this vein and reiterate the things I said in that other thread, but I will shut up now, because I have far better things to do than waste my time on someone who by her posts here, has clearly proven herself unwilling to do whatever it takes to get herself in a better place but willing to waste energy on fruitless pursuits.

Tool God, Yes, I've been homeless twice. The first time my home burned to the ground and I had nothing except what I was wearing. I picked up that time and went on. The second time was in 2006 when a person who had inherited the land I held a registered lease on inherited the land and wanted to develope it. I owned an older mobile home there, and had for 31 years, and after a lengthy and very dirty court fight wound up being evicted four times from something I owned, and it eventually lead to this man putting a trackhoe through the front of that home and people I considered for 31 years as neighbors looting and stealing everything they could and now I'm facing it for the third time. At that time when I had absolutely no clothes to wear to work and my car was in impound this God forsaken company threatened to FIRE me and I wish they had.
Now I did what I had to do for this company for nine years working my rear off, jumping at their beck and call until it has almost pushed me to the edge and wrecked my health both mentally and physically. I've watched them humiliate my daughter until she absolutely hates to even think about going in to work. I've tried to allow her and them to work out their differences as I would have done with other employee but she still is treated as an extension of me, a two for one deal until it comes time to scheduling. I'm tired and I'm going through a gamet of feelings right now that I would not wish on anyone. But the one thing neither I, nor any other employee has to tolerate is outright age, sex, and racial discrimination and retailiation. We don't have to tolerate outright harassment such as someone waving a used condom in their face and asking if you want it. It was either limit my exposure to this mess, or become the person on the news with a weapon shooting hell out of some who desparately need it. Now which would you perfer I do, limit my exposure to this bully manager, or start loading the guns?? Have you ever been pushed to the point you actually picked up a loaded gun with the intent to kill someone?? Well I have and I don't like how it affected me or how it made me feel. It is a part of my being I don't ever want to experience again.
Now I thought this was a free country and people on this forum were here to discuss things going on at this company. I didn't know it was a rah rah, Sears Holding is greatest session and everyone disagreeing with it is either a certified liar or mentally unbalanced. As the sheriff in this county used to say some of us know what we know. We know how we have been treated. Luis knows, I know and I would be willing to bet we aren't the only ones.

When you do a google engine search on EEOC and discrimination complaints against Sears - you will have many pages to read. I would suspect that few people do actually file a complaint. So given the large number of official complaints against the company - plus seeing the blogs and various message boards about various forms of discrimination at Sears - then obviously something is very wrong with this company.
If someone didn't fight in the past - we would have no laws to protect us at all.
No Osha laws - no discrimination laws - nothing.
No minimum wage laws.
There would be no such thing as unemployment insurance either.
If someone didn't stand up and fight for their rights.

Luis: Well said. But it may be a moot point since they suceeded in finally setting me up in electronics yesterday. A person walked right past the register and left electronics with a portable $29.99 stereo heading for the front while I was busy with a vendor. LP was standing right there to pounce and instead of doing his blasted job and following the person, he reported that I DID nothing to stop this supposed shoplifter. I got two writeups and was told not to return until I deal with my problem. Since I've done all that is humanly possible to deal with my problems I give up and I've referred this on to the EEOC as a possible illegal termination since I really don't think I will be going back. I'm not their blasted LP and I'm not endangering myself to try to stop anyone especially when the LP is standing right there to do his blasted job that HE gets PAID to do and DOES NOTHING. I have NO patience with an LP that spends most of his day watching me or some other employee while shoplifters walk out the door. I'm simply sick and tired of this kindergarden crap company and since they told me NOT to come back they can just deal with the after effects.
