I suppose there are some people here that have been asking themselves "What is Tillman going to do to us to get his bonus this year?"
The answer was in the Monday 3/8/04 conference call. I don't want to reveal it just yet because if its only been my store, which I doubt, that would pin down which store I'm at. Which would be a reason for me to contribute to Bob's bonus. Has anyone heard anything about "ratios"?
All I can say right now is that if you make over $9.00 an hour, watch your back!!!!!!!!!!

Haven't heard anything or been able to find anything out, but I'm sure his bonus is much more than last year, he had all of our vacation money that we'ed already worked for that they took from us. As for longtime employees being a target I saw that all last year, one strike and you were gone to be replaced by a $6.00 dollar an hr. employee. As soon as they pass the law for the illegals to work in this Country we'll all be gone anyway, to be replaced with $3.00 dollar an hr. employees. I do hope that he and the other high dollar crowd at G.O. enjoy the big bonuses that we killed ourselves making for them last year.

Cabinetman, OUCH !!!!! dude you hit the nail on the head. They can give management checks and the sm bigger checks. And all we get is (people we did great this year and next year's gonna be even greater) yeah for them. if we were all smart we'd leave when our stock goes up. That's what I'm waiting on, I had enuff of the crap to last me the rest of my days. I guess I am stupid for staying all of those yrs. I wished I'd never started working at Lowes, but I stayed for the stock package, until toupee Tillman and the board took all the benefits from the employees. Well gotta go, gotta get my black sunglasses and my tin cup and go to the mall and make a few bucks. Take care everyone.

Man, I miss the days when it was fun to go to work, you felt proud about what you did, people told all their friends to be sure and ask for you when they came to the store, you occasionally stayed over to help your relief out, and at the end of the year the company not only praised their employees but shared the bucks with them. Nothing like money to reward a year of hard work and loyalty to the company.
Now it's just a "job" and a lousy one at that. We know before we go in that we are going to be treated like crap and not appreciated. Somehow whatever problems management is having will become our fault. We will be abused and exploited to fill the greedy pockets of the brain damaged folks at the top, and we will constantly ask ourselves why we tolerate such inhumane treatment.
If the employees we have now will eventually be replaced with people that barely speak the language, the customers will finally realize they have had enough and stop going there except when they have to. We have a neighborhood Ace True Value hardware store that just opened and you wouldn't believe how refreshing it is to go in there and be treated like a king.
Lowe's could do that if they would take care of their employees and let them help the customers. But that's not the way of the modern Lowe's.

cooter,
Let me know how you do at the Mall with the tin cup, if my check keeps shrinking due to the lack of decent increases and the cost of everything going up, I might have to do a little moonlighting myself.
OldWorkEthic,
It did used to be fun at work, now it's fun to be away from there. When greed took over the human part was kicked out the door.

The tin cup thing must be catching on cause there were lowes and hd people everywhere.(just kiddin.)Did you hear about the BIG meeting in FLA. ? Is there anything to discuss about any event that went on, or are they just going to keep it hush hush. If you hear anything let me know.Keep your head up there's a job somewhere left in this country for us, unless it's going across the border.I just thought of something, why are the mexicans coming up here for a job when all of the jobs are going down to their country. They just need to stay put.

Haven't heard a word about the Fla. trip. The only thing I've heard lately is something about some changes in the Specialist position duties, nothing for sure, could be just rumors. Anyone else hear anything? Your right about jobs there none in this country for the illegals ,except ours, think about that one .

Recieved my yearly increase last week. if you can call it that. Was told that raises are no longer given out at store level, that they're sent down from G.O. for each employee, can anyone back this up or is it BS? Never have I seen increases this low in my seven years at Lowe's, you would think it was a Company having a hard time staying in business instead of one making record profits. Very sad, very sad.

I guess the word isn't spreading very fast.
New directive from the Florida meeting:
Less fulltime and more part time and seasonal associates. The change is 11%
Go Bobby!!!!!
The claim is that the new ratios will allow better customer service by having more associates on the floor during peak sales periods. Yeah RIGHT!!! What happens when things get slow and they cut P/T to 16 hours. Can you say "LESS COVERAGE" but more control over payroll!! Less company costs for benefits!
I wonder what Bobby has in store for us next year?
Yes, its confirmed that raises are coming from GO. The store makes the recommendation and GO determines what the raise will be. Control payroll!! And they ARE using salary caps. The way caps are usually used at other companies I've worked for are to try to keep salaries in the middle of the payscale. If you are above the middle of your scale you can count on no raise or a very small one. Raises at my store have been $0.15 to a whopping $0.25 per hour!

JT,
I haven't heard anything about what happened at the meeting, normaly they tell us bits & pieces, must be real hush hush this year. The 11% decrease doesn't surprise me and it will hurt, if we had to run our store right now on nothing but full time employees we couldn't do it. Less fulltime, low pay increases, less benifits, that spells more bonus money for the top dogs. They work the employees to death trying to get more production out of them, the employees immune system gets weak, its easier for them to get sick or get hurt, but its the bottom line that counts, not the employee. The people at G.O. are so blinded by greed they see nothing else. I guess you could say (they can't see the forrest for the trees.)

Cabinetman,
This goes back to what was said in another thread where Lowes raised the amount of sentence completed to 3 years before you are eligible for the "Performance Bonus". I figured out what mine would versus the old method and I came out ahead by about $400. But I've had to be putting 6% of my pay into the 401k plan to receive my bonus.
I just had my PTC tell me all the monetary benifits of moving into department management. Like monthly bonuses for your department making budget. Since the first of the year, when I found the report that reports this information, two Dept. Managers have received their bonus,$100 once each. So yeah thats a great incentive.
Then I pointed that I'd be working alot more hours and with variable rate overtime, even with the standard 10% raise, I'd be making less per hour. She was quick to point out that its actually a 20% increase, 10% raise and your overtime makes up another 10%. She completely ignored my less per hour comment. I was born at night, but it wasn't last night!
I brought up some family value issues and was told "thats the choice you make". At that point she got a bit indignent with me.
Oh, and last week I found out that one of the things that store managers are evaluated on is how many promotions they have in their store.
As John Paul Jones once said:
'Give me a fast ship for I intend to sail in harm's way'

I am a department manager at lowes "hell". It is not all it is cracked up to be. I work well over 57 hours and me overtime pay is around $2.25. I hardly get time to spend with my wife. word of warning do not take a salary position.
