The auditors came to our store.Stayed a whole 5 days .On the first day,4 employees were caught violating safety policies by not having aisleblockers or spotters 2 were fired! On the third day,2 more were fired for not having ailseblockers .Lp man and his BOSS gave a morning safety meeting(one EVERY morning&night now)and said "zero tolerance and no second chances !!!"They also made EVERYONE sign policy and procedure for power equipment&spotters!Oh...from now on,safety cones are an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM when on a ladder :roll:And after the place is closed(and customers all gone)aisleblockers WILL still be used .. Question....has ANYTHING like this happened in your stores? Are we just now getting what everyone else has been going through? Or is this the beginning of the final push to rid the company of UNWANTED employees who consume payroll dollars better spent on mgrs. bonuses

That is the Lowe's policy, but where I'm at it depends on who you are, some only get write ups some get fired. A double standard "YES" but all Lowe's policies are that way, if it's someone they want to keep they get another chance, if it's someone on the target list they're gone. Keep in mind that in most states Lowe's dosen't have to have a reason to fire an employee, but they would rather have a reason so they don't have to pay unemployment. They don't take into account that we can't always find a spotter but they still expect the work to be done, so it's a catch 22, if you don't have a spotter you can be fired and if you don't get your work done you can be fired. My advice is if theres no spotters tell Management, if they can't get you a spotter they should do it themselves, if that don't work stay off the picker and advise Management that you don't have what you need to do your job. Take the responsibility off your shoulders and put it on theirs.

Our store has had zero tolerance for the last 2 years. It dosen't matter who you are. First safety violation you are gone. And yes if you can't get a spotter call the MOD, then its their problem. Customer service or not its YOUR responsibility to be safe. Lowes says customer service comes first, remind them that SAFETY comes first!!!
I was talking with the mother of the little girl that got killed at HD by the falling counter tops. No one did anything wrong. They had their blockers and spotter. The family was just watching the star wars get counter tops out of top stock. The bands broke and the load shifted and fell, within the safety zone. BUT the counter tops shattered when they hit the floor sending huge chunks flying every where. One chunk hit the girl in the chest and killed her.
Everyone KNOWS the safety policies. There is never an excuse for not abiding by them them!!!!!!!!
I feel bad for anyone that got fired. But MY GOD, you had auditors in the store and you chose to violate safety rules anyways.
I've seen several people terminated for no blockers or no spotters. A couple of department managers and several associates. I saw two associates have their license pulled. One was on the forklift the other was his spotter. The violation, the forklift operator wasn't wearing his seatbelt. The spotter lost his for not making the operator put the belt on. Small violation, small penality. But because of the department they are in they are pretty much screwed.
Safety is a serious matter and its your responsibility to be sure your store is safe.
