Our store manager was just let go. Does anyone know how a new manager is chosen? We have an ASM who would be fantastic, but I hear that the SM position is rarely filled by people already in place, which makes no sense at all, why not move someone up who already knows the store and it's needs?

Found ya Tiger. Boy, this thing really is eating you up isn't it. That's one good thing about HD, always keeping you on your toes. Yes, I know the jist of the how they are selected, which we can talk about here, it is not nearly as well known or active amongst us employees, or on MEET if you prefer. Here, the District manager reviews all ASM's in his/her district then Flys the prospective candidates head office where they do a written exam, then an oral interview. After that, they do a 4 hour store walk with the DM & others. From that walk and listening to ideas and suggestions they figure out if the person is rready or not. But usually there is a pool of ASM's that have gone through the interview process that they can draw form. If you bomb the interview, they won't call you back for two years.
