Gosh. After years of being ignored by Wall Street money barons, the lower classes have become big enough to be noticed. Suddenly we're a vast untapped source of wealth. Very Happy

More than 60 million Americans 25 to 64 years old reported incomes of less than $25,000 in 2002, the latest year for which government figures are available. Like Allen, most of these workers have small or no pensions, scant savings, and serious concerns about their retirement years, according to government statistics and polling results.

That was 2 years ago. I suspect the number has increased somewhat.
Over a fifth of this country's population makes less than $25k a year, many make FAR less than $25k and the vast majority of these do not participate in the stock market or funnel any money into the pockets of the Wall Street money changers.

In their concern for those less fortunate than themselves, Wall Street wants to change all that. They want to tap that resource now that the numbers have gotten big enough to attract their attention. They want to lighten the load of the middle and upper classes, who have heretofore had to support The Street on their own and they want to give the poor an opportunity to support the economy by supporting Wall Street in the manner to which Wall Street has become accustomed to being supported.

They want to turn the poor into gamblers and speculators just like those other folks, the difference being that those other folks can usually afford to have someone else play games with their incomes. This is one that the poor want to consider carefully.

I'm wondering what the actual numbers are that are families that are trying to make it on that. 25k back in the 60's or 70's was good money but today doesn't go very far. Neutral
