Seeing as the love of music is universal and as there is a couple kinda general music threads kickin' around, I thought I'd post something a bit more specific... a poll!

After you cast your vote could you please provide a couple of examples of artists you like from that genre and why you like them.

I'll start:

My vote goes to "other" because a lot of the stuff I enjoy the most is either too obscure or too crossover-ish to fit most of the categories.

Some examples:

Mr. Bungle - never fails to make me laugh - these guys pull off the most absurd stuff with unbelievable style and grace. Probably the most enjoyable music I've heard in my life. I've been following their progress since 1989 or 90 when a friend of mine had a recording of a recording of a recording of the demo tape for their first album.

Barkmarket - These guys could maybe fit into the industrial/metal category but they're a little too experimental and out of the ordinary IMO. A very tight three piece band that can make an odd time groove better than most bands can groove a 4/4. I've been listening to their 4th album "Gimmick" for almost ten years and it still impresses me. Surprised

Otherwise, my collection runs all the way from Doris Day to Deicide ( Rock on! ) which makes random-play in winamp a pretty amusing adventure: one minute I'm screaming along with Lemmy and the next I'm yodeling with Jimmie Rodgers.

I`ll bite to this one only because I`ve been saving all thouse plates most of my life. Got more than most want to know about.

But for real late at night, it`s JJW and JB. Then we let the sharks run for all they got, cause them little gold`n ones is so much fun to run around the pool.

So where you gon`a go,

Good thread.

I chose Electronic. Not too many people here will be familiar with Sasha and Digweed, Tall Paul, Tiesto. In fact, I'll venture to say none but one or two will recognize the names.

Aside from electronica, I'll listen to just about anything but old country or new rap. How could I ever say no to BB King, or Frankie (Sinatra), or Vivaldi's Seasons or Tchaikovski's "Nutcracker", which I watched live (ballet) at least 4 times as a kid.?

didn't mr. bungle have the guy from faith no more? and deicide is some hard core shit, dude!!!

I had to go with the "other" category...i like mostly hard rock and metal, but not too metal like slayer or deicide...some of the bands i go for are of course metallica, pantera, sevendust, disturbed, but also prog. metal like king's x and dream theater...

however, i also enjoy classical such as tchaikovsky's 1812, which really was the hard rock of its day

let's have some good musical discussions on this thread!

Yup, the same guy is also in Fantomas, Lovage, Peeping Tom, uh... and Tomahawk. I haven't heard Peeping Tom yet, but the other three are incredible. As you're into metal, you should check out the Fantomas album "Directors Cut" - they bastardize a bunch of classic movie themes - it's very cool.

As long as you don't say Autechre-- the reigning king of elitist, pretentoius folk who like slinging the name more then they like listening to it. :)

Personally, I am a string instrument, and/or male voice type listener.
I enjoy: Dirty Three, the Rachels, while also enjoying Tool, Pink Floyd, and the Doors.
Operatica is good now and then. As well as The Violent Femmes, Current 93, and Wesley Willis when I am really feeling silly.

Also, anything butchered by William Shatner is great to liven up a day!

Iris Dement... Ralph Stanley... Alice Cooper... Allison Kraus... INXS...Yazz...Dave Matthews... and sometimes, George Jones... the greatest in my preference is Johnny Cash. He transends all divisions of great music.

sorry for the all bold sleK, but as you may be able to tell from my music collection, I like being different. Let's be friends now.

PS.... I forgot to mention the Roches, if anybody knows who they are..... If you do, you are my instant ..... acquaintence if not friend.....

As I've stated before; your incessant need to stand out speaks to a deep-seated self-esteem issue IMO. Maybe your parents didn't give you enough attention when you were a child? You should consider seeing a psychiatrist.

In the meantime, your willingness to push your luck with these mild-mannered snipes toward me is duly-noted.

I miss cream, and traffic, alan parsons. I've still got the albums and the turntable. Might be time to get them out.
Old Rolling stones, janis joplin and, of course led zepplin make me think of my old hippy days thumbin a ride to Ipswich, Ma.
Now, I like Dave Mathews, John Mayo, and such. I'm the former hippy mother of college students who listen to stuff I never heard of. If they are playing something I like, they "burn" me a copy, like the Sundays.
I like the modern bluegrass and what I guess they call adult alternative. And Prince.

Thank you. Your advice that I should seek psychiatric help is duly noted as well. I am not here for a war or even a battle. In fact, I appreciate your contribution (this site) to making sense out of business. If you only allow anal-retentive individuals who can't give and/or take heat on your site, you are doing a disservice to your mission.

I always knew my parents screwed up something!!!! Now, Peace.... Agreed sleK?

You know, the only Alan Parsons I've ever experienced was that "eye in the sky" track that scored a lot of airplay here. I really enjoyed the song but I never bothered to check out any other Alan Parsons stuff.

Any album recomendations?
