I am interested we all complain about working for Lowes. It use to be a great place to go to everyday, lots of fun. Why do you all work there if you state you hate it so much? Why not just go some where else? Comments please. I am not trying to raise anyone's blood pressure. I work at Lowes for the insurance, high medical bills, and can't get private insurance.

I work there simply because it's one of the only places in town hiring. It's the closest I've probably ever had for work. Commutes can be a pain...mine is at the very very most 20 minutes and that's taking it the long way of 7.5 miles.
At the way how I see it it's retail and it's easy to join and easy to leave. The high turnover rate pretty much can put people anywhere. I've seen one start that's already the paint manager and she has had two injuries since opening in august!

It takes 20 minutes to go 7.5 miles. Must be a big city. I live 12 miles and it takes me 11 minutes. I have worked at a place, not sure how many miles but I commuted 45 minutes everyday both ways. It was kind of nice to relax before I got home, except on the 14 hour days, then it was hard to stay awake.

O no it's not a big city at all it's just we have some roads that are very straight. I say 20 minutes because I take my time. There's ways I can take a shortcut but the road is narrow...that and I hit a curb and had to get a new tire. An extra 20 cents in gas is worth it compaired to $70 for a new tire.

I am in the same boat as LowesLady. I've been with Lowe's for 11 years now. I too have given my blood, sweat and tears. I've seen them come, and seen them go. Each new manager comes in, new ideas, new plans yadda, yadda, yadda. Back to the basics has always been my mantra. Put the stuff on the shelves, price it, take their money up at the front registers.
Here comes another hundred days of hell...yes we can do it, bring it on.

I'm here cause I heard you get some cheesy reward after 10 years!! Only 1 1/2 years to go!!! LOL
Lowe's is a great company, okay benefits, and like some others have said... blood, sweat, and lots of tears (I blame it on the pregnancy) have gone into the place.
Besides, I'm trying to see just how many store and district managers we are going to go through.

Lowes is a joke. If you think anyone in management is on YOUR side in any situation, you're crazy. No matter how long you have been there, you are as expendable today as you were the first day you were hired. You are merely a number and if you start making good money, watch out because when they start looking at ways to cut hours because of bad % to sales, higher paid employees will be the first to get the axe. I can tell you ALOT of stories about Lowes, too many to type in here but, suffice it to say that the District Manager demoted and transfered ALL of the assistant managers at the local Lowes store. Sometimes transferring people to a store that is 75 miles away. Tell me he wasn't trying to just get those people to quit? So, if they would do that to longtime employee's and management no less, what do they think of the people on the front lines working hourly or specialists jobs?
I met alot of good people at Lowes and are still friends with them today. The best of those people saw what I am describing and left to get better jobs. Some stayed behind and are dying from a stress induced environment.
I took a job as a Merchandising Rep, and now Lowes has reduced those contracts to a yearly deal. No job security in Vendor jobs anymore either. I was laid off because I made one of the highest salaries in the district. Anytime you deal with Lowes, on any level...you will get burned.

Basically, it was the only place that would hire me when I got out of prison. I've been here 4 years and don't really want to leave.

The number one answer is the benfits, were else can you get the benfits that we have, look into the hyatt legal service, if you would take advantge of this program, it will save you thousands in every day legal services if needed 2nd, is were else can you give it your best and feel good about it, the mangement may not tell you, but when that repeated customer comes back to you, it sure makes me feel good. You have to remember that we work for a giant, there concern may not be for your best interest, but if you make it your best interest you can't loose

First and foremost I work at Lowe's for money, that's what we all do, yes some days are good some are bad, some are both, but that's the price we pay to work in retail. I have been at Lowes for 7 years, and through its ups and downs I still live and breathe it. And no I am not one of these folks who ROSE TO THE TOP QUICKLEY, I earned everything I got. Only took 18 interviews for a management position lol
Heck, even today, had a guy cuss me, swore I had a bad attitude and all, but by the timke he left he apologized to me and left a happy customer.

Jonesy
