I am interviewing for a position in Nor Cal with Expo Design Center for the phone center/cashier... for part time. I am currently a HR mgr in another retail company and am just doing this as part time for additional income and to see if this could be a company I might want to switch and promote to and make a career out of. Just testing the waters I guess.
I have no idea where to start on salary negotiation. The person who interviewed me told me I needed to ask for a good base rate of pay since they only give raises once a year. I just have no idea what to ask for to start at.
Can anybody offer any suggestions?!
Thanks!!!

I'm gonna say $11-12 an hour and thats max. Depot has gotten stingy with their rate of pay because we all get bonuses now. If you want to make a career of it i suggest you go for a Kitchen Design postion. You will need traing and they may provide it. I know if you go for a NKBA they will reimburse you for that. Then you can easily make $50-60k a year.

well now that someone thinks we are stuck up, maybe that is the case where you are, but not general, we think we are no better than regular depot other than the fact we have higher ticketed items. Its sad, customers at our closing location still think DEpot will carry the 10-30K stoves/ovens and the 5-15K built in refridgerators. for one thing that is not the typical HD client and the other is the Vendors do not want it in an orange box. that out of the way
starting wage will vary depending on what department you work in and what your exp. is when hired and how well you can interview. I have seen top notch associates get anywhere from 10-22 dollars an hour starting and I have seen worthless associates get between 10-18 dollars an hour.
I am/was loyal to HD for 5 years, with the closing about 100 of us are loosing jobs because HD can not support us or not willing to support us.
