I just want to say DD's posts are always intresting to read and shes pointing out the truth without sugar coating it... keep on going.

Center-isle cashwraps have their ups and downs, customers sometimes say they always have someone there when they are ready to go now, others complain there are not more registers around the store.... if someone shows up when you call, all is square... but if your stuck behind that cashwrap, and you can't leave... you are waiting on everyone else to do anything that can't be done back there for you.

Pro's and Con's.....

I would agree.....an acknowledegement of Mrs. DD's idea, that it works....the SGM could announce some morning that the district had decided to use her idea....

My point was that none of us should worry about the accolades....just doing it better and faster....it's all about productivity....

And of course, it's all about our attitude.
I am sorry you can only beat a horse down for so long, I know I need to hear that I am doing a good job once in awhile. I also like to think I have a good attitude, see Rs if you don't acknowledge your employees for doing good, they will stop. It's only human nature. It is amazing to a person what the words you are doing a great job can do to some ones work habits. I know! Thumbs Up

a good job done should always be mentioned...every day....mgmt should always find something right happening.....it's there, everyone just needs to look for it, and share it...

Could be sales.
Could be PA's.
Could be credit.
Could be a CAC acknowledging a customer in line...I'll be right with you.
Could be an MCA doing a good job with pull lists.
Could be an MPU guy meeting the 5 minute time.
Could be a footwear associate spending time in open sell.
Could be..............................

I agree, but it is not being said. All we ever here is the negative stuff!

After three pages, I have absolutely no clue what the original subject of the thread was supposed to be. Nevertheless, I'll touch on a couple of points mentioned.

I agree, merchandising has gone to hell. Sears corp. buyers baffle me, or at least their practices do. Every year I see the same pattern - take the best selling products, get rid of them and replace them with cheap, substandard garbage. I don't know about bikes or softlines, I'm reflecting mainly on big ticket.

Appreciation - I agree, management needs to learn to show more of it. Some managers are better than others, but it seems to be a predominant managerial personality trait to focus on negative evaluations of their employees and blindly dismiss the positive events.

I'll go back and re-read the three pages again. I'm still not sure what else I missed. Ah yes, there was something about bots. Actually a forum bot can be installed. One joust with it can easily run up 10 pages, after which you'll need psychiatric help. The bot always has the last word. Wink

Who's idea was that policy or directive-who gets the BLAME.Even though someone might have signed off on a memo or directive 10 years ago it still might be affecting the company TODAY-every action does have a consequence

realstuff said bikes & carpeting lost money-that was a given but how was the foot traffic into the stores made up;every time someone comes into the store & doesn't get what they came for that's 1 less future trip/potential sale from that customer & the other potential customers they tell they did NOT find it at Sears.Would it really pain Sears to carry a limited selection of things like these just a CONVENIENCE FOR THE CUSTOMER just as Target or Walmart carries tools?. realstuff also said cash wraps work if "properly staffed"-let me get this straight;Sears decides to go with a set of systems & procedures that require constant and experienced staffing in a time of extreme staffing and $$$ CUT BACKS,high turn-over and poor pay-none of which will lead to things like "properly staffed".

Carrying a limited selection is a tricky issue. See, if your selection is too small, people will think you don't have a good selection and will shop elsewhere for the product. If your selection is too big, you will confuse customers and they will leave without making a purchase, or worse yet, you will invest a lot of square footage into something that would be more profitably invested elsewhere. So what is a limited selection? Is 5 bikes a limited selection? or a small selection? or a large selection?

devote some space for items that lose money, or expand treadmills and fitness equipment where we own the business.....

Footsteps are important...company should use the ads to bring in NEW customers......and TV and RADIO.....

Focus on what wins.....and we all win.

Footie.....hope the BOT stuff wasn't taken personally.....it wasn't meant to be so.
