Here is my experience:

I've been working labor intensive jobs in Chico, Ca. for years. I'm currently in the process of leaving my employer. In other words, while most people work 40 hours a week, I work 100.

I was in Home Depot store 4 times over a week (plumbing, lumber, irrigation, tools,) so I thought, why not-- I'll send Home Depot an online application.

Here is how the Chico store responded:

I got a message from someone with poor skills, only a first name I couldn't understand, no extension, no department, no contact information, only the local Home Depot number.

(Home Depot must not train anyone how they should talk on the phone. )

So I made at least 14 calls to the local Chico store, couldn't find out who called. Except one man suggested calling "Susie" in the HR department. Once I was able to find "Susie," she was rude, degrading, and very short.

She spoke two sentences:

1.She was too busy for someone like me.

2. "If she was the one who called me, she would call me back." (exact words)

And hung up.

I'm a polite person who would always inform a person who I am at the beginning of a phone conversation. I was responding out of courtesy.

So I approach the Assistant Store manager. He didn't know who would have called me. So I brought my answering machine for the store manager to hear the original message, because I still wasn't sure who made the original call. Of course he brought this rude ,brown nosed woman along. "Oh I would never do or say something like that."

In other words, Home Depot trashes people before they even become employees.

I'm changing jobs, but it would never be a Home Depot.

I'll never step onto the property of any HOME DEPOT.

I'm sure other's have their peeves about other Big boxes, but mine is Home Depot.

I feel ya, the HR at Home Depot stinks. Although now I work for the company that handles their online benefits stuff. So I am not directly related to the company. But they typically will have one HR rep handle multiple stores which means one HR person is responsible for like 300+ employees at a time. To me that is ridiculous but HD has been trying to cut costs for a long time now, guess they are doing it by shafting employees.

I was originally in Home Depot because I'm remodeling my cabin. I'm going to put about $14,000 into it this summer.

What this haughty women doesn't understand it she cost Home Depot about half of this. I would never have thought much negativity toward employees of Home Depot until encountering this snotty HR person and the store management style. I understand we all've got to make a living.

But...I personally try to remain professional. If Home Depot has a HR person responsible for 300+ people, that isn't my problem. If a person is unethical, rude, and degrading, I take my business elsewhere.

hey man, i am joseph and i work at lowes..

I read what you typed and i know what you are saying about them. i have read reports on them and i have even checked into home depot and lowes before i applied.. Thankfully lowes is 210% better then that and if you do have a problem anymore with them i would say take it to the home depot HQ. I took my store to lowes HQ and made some shit happened that should have.. For one the dumb asses that was being rude to people is no longer there, and 5 cashiers quite because of me and 4 managers did as well. So you see if you know how to play the game then you will stay alive in it. Mostly my ex-bosses wanted to start some shit with me but they couldn't stop it nor end it. So i ended their jobs for them.. I know what you mean too man i was in the HD where i live and they where VERY rude to me. I called the 800 number and filed 20 complents against them until they shut the store down and fired everyone.. So yes customers have alot more power then you know.

BeenAround I am glad to hear that you would rather shop with us, And thank you for driving the ten minutes to one of our stores. I ask that if you think you have been mistreated at lowes or someone has been rude to you to take action. You can get the lowes 1-800 number from the stores or to their district managers.. Or you may file a complant with lowes HQ and they will deal with it. I truely beleave in making the customers happy but not at the risk of your on happiness.. There is two ways to truely do this

1, take time and talk to the customer and get to know them some and their project.. Remenber they came to your store to spend some money with you so you better be nice to them..

2, Try to help them in anyway you can, if that means taking 5 hours with them then do so just make them happy and explan everything about what you are doing and give them some ideas.

I live by this and most of my co-workers hates me for it but i make the customers happy and i dont tell them what they want to hear i take time with them and explan it to them. So if a customer comes to me and asks me how much for a john deere riding lawnmower i can start to help them with this tisk. Most of the time my customers are happy and i still have my head and my cool.

Funny....of course it's all bullshit. This is real life, honey, not Dynasty. Take your meds, like a good boy, and go weave another basket elsewhere.
