Is this true at other locations?
The local Sears has an auto dept. attached and a small "floor" space. In the past you could walk in the doors and go to the counter for help. Now you can't! Oh, you can come inside and go to the counter, but there is a big sign that says you must go to the garage for help! No sales person is there. So you get back in your car and get in line for the garage when all you wanted was a battery charger or a pressure gage or ask about tires?? What idiot thought this up. Hell, Tire America is across the lot....no waiting and there is someone at the counter!
I've said it before and I'll say it again; JUST LOCK THE DAMN DOORS!

Maybe they mean to go into the garage thru the doors inside by the counter area. Sometimes the counter guy is on lunch or a break and we just walk thru the door into the work area.

I asked about that. A garage employee said "We are not allowed on the sales floor anymore". "If you want something, anything automotive, you must come to the lone register they just put in the garage". I should note here this garage is a work area and I can't understand how they can get by the safety rules with this.
Unbelieveable

It's the new system. They call it drive in service and its so much easier for the customer Actually at least your store has a sign in our store they just think the inside is abandon.

You'd think that with the way busines is they'd be doing everything they can to help the customer. Oh well, they can call it drive in or whatever they want. I have no problem driving away to a store where my business will be appreciated.

auto1 - what have they done with your CSA selling hours? Have they sent all your sales associates home? Who watches out for shoplifting? Does anyone even really care?

As far as I know, officially selling hours have not changed, as long as we can average a little over $200/hours and don't have too much overtime they don't care, but I say officially because we have been short staffed for months and its not uncommon for us to work 45-47 hours per week. We can not keep staff.
LP would be the only people looking out for shoplifting, and they don't seem to be around much.

I noticed they are doing the same thing with the paint departments. There are signs telling the customers to go find help at the hardware cash wrap. I suppose this means the cashier will then page someone to help in paint. If there is a line, the customer will wait for the cashier and then wait for the paint mixer to show up.
As usual the company just doesn't get it. Customers aren't going to screw around with this system when better service is available elsewhere. Sears really would save a lot of time if they just locked the doors now.
