ok im a live nursery specalist in GA and been with lowes for about 4 years. after spending a year and eight months in plumbing I went outside and now tired of it .......its hot and i always get frustrated in the summer so i feel like bitchin so here i go....LP i can say a lot of good things about them but i would have to lie so ill just tell you they suck. all they think to do is find some employee that will steel cause they are not aloud to do anything to a costomer so.....hmmmm lets concentrate on internal theft....go ahead COPPER. and well if you dont have a SPOTTER or your isle blockers. give me a break. LETS BE SAFE. yeah right. you want to be safe HIRE MORE PEOPLE to drive power equipment and spot. the sad thing is the top brASS thought of a crew to do this but the cost was too much. As a live nursery specalist i order plants but other than that im a loader with an attatude. why because LOWES needs to hire more people...oh they hired a lot of people in the spring but they all quit....hmmmm maybe cause of the pay and maybee cause they were not led by example cause the asm didnt help in there area and just commanded what to be done. and let me tell you about the FRONT END soap apra is what
comes to mind who is sleeping with who is always in the air. look i spend 11hrs a day at lowes. where else do you meet someone. and lazy people.....MAN dont even want to go there. if you are a lazy person workin at lowes please quit or go to asm training. i could bad mouth lowes all day... i used to love it but all the changes that were made makes it hard to like it....has all lows stores lost a lot of longtimers in the last 6 months? my store did. do you think lowes made the changes to clean house? well i gotta go

Well lowes-green-guy, it sounds like your store is about the same as ours. All kinds of new P&P but no manpower to back it up. You are right about safety being a main concern, but it sure would be nice to have more than one person covering a dept. at a time. I do think that you are correct in your assumption that the changes of late are designed to get rid of long term employees! Why else would you want to piss-off that many people! Of course this all goes back to "bonus packages" for the upper management. The less spent on a knowledgeable workforce,the more money to divey up for S\Ms and such on up the food chain. All I can offer is to tell you to hang in there and spread the word about the new R\W site. Maybe with enough of us talking, changes may come about! Cool [/b]

Just stumbled across this site somehow! Very cool. Thumbs Up I have to agree that the company has changed quite a bit in the last 6-8 months. I'm a 5+ years employee and have seen some changes, but nothing like this year; babysitting the Power equipment and netting just to name a couple. Next thing, you just wait, is going to be NO operating power equip between the hours of 9am and 7 or 8pm. Something like that is coming, I betcha. I work in Flooring and you MUST have the Star Wars to complete your work a lot of times. I look forward to engaging in this forum. It could be very therapeutic (sp) at times.
This is my first post (obvioulsy) so a little background about me: started out as a CSA, worked my way up to dept. manager, and then an ASM. I absolutely hated the ASM position for various reasons and stepped down to go back to Flooring as a specialist (much happier dealing w/customers before they are pissed).

Welcome to the group redsled Smile Been with Lowes for 5+ years here to, and can relate with you very much, been through all the different positions except ASM, been ask to go forward but my reply is why would I subject myself to such cruelity, and have to turn it around on another Rolling Eyes

I too am a Flooring Specialist, love the job, most the time Wink Curious to know how many specialist do you have in your dept? Again welcome to the group, and always know we all have something to vent about, we are here try to make things better Very Happy

there are two Flooring Specialist in our store .... i think its been that way for two years...... i think there is two in all departments well there should be....

Sad to say I have been specialist\DM\specialist in the flooring dept for 2 years now, the only flooring specialist for 2 years, and I am expected to beat my budget which I did last year and they added even more outrageous numbers this year for me to beat Mad

But guess what now Surprised They are saying they are getting 2 more specialist in my dept, excuse me, but the busy time in the season in flooring is almost over and now you think I need help Confused

Curious to know how many specialist do you have in your dept?


There are two specialists in my store. Originally the SM was going to give us three spec. for Flooring instead of giving Home Decor two, but for whatever reason he never did.

Now thanks to one of the guys going to another department two months ago, we only have three people in the dept. Has anyone ever seen the matrix for the stores as far as staffing goes that's listed on WKLN? One slow day last month I stumbled across it and for my store (budget-wise) we can be staffed permanently with only three people. Confused I can't believe that. Three people in a dept doesn't get it done.

redsled, and would somebody please explain how flooring, which is suppose to do the most install sales in the store, can push this program to its fullest with 3 people, which at times we have had only 2 in some months, cos we have had a problem with people comp'n out Mad

Lady, I wish I could explain it. When we opened the store over two years ago, we started with six. I know that you always open a store heavily staffed, but to now only have three is just ridiculous. And about generating most of the installs, you're right. It's hard to generate business when half of the customers are walking out because it takes us too long to help them. Oh, well. So goes Lowesland. It will never change.

Re: Matrix

The only matrix is for mgt and specialist. and that is based on your yearly store budget. The hourly associates are at mgt discretion based on available hours in order to leverage payroll. At one time there was a matrix for all positions, but they have put the ball into the store managers lap. I actually e mailed Staffing at G.O. to ask about the matrix question.
