I guess I'm not high enough on the food chain at Lowes to have E-mail so I know little about what was written.
I do appreciate the fact that everyone has BS at their stores and that we have places like this to vent it.
If upper management wants to be helpful, they should read the concerns posted here and take them to heart and FIX the problems instead of being threatened by this site.

I would say if you want to write something just don't use their names. It's hard to say someone can get sued for an "assumption"
Just look at the Pirate bay case.

Ha! So, here I am...Browsing an old webpage I used to be addicted to, only to find a post I put up 1 year ago is still circulating. How crazy is that?
Ironically enough, I only came on because another conference call mentioning this website reminded me of it.
Since then, I've been promoted and transfered across the country. But, really? Is what I wrote so untrue? But then again, this is my career, not my "I'm just doing this until I get out of college" job.

I wouldn't call lowes a career. No offense or anything. there's other industries the pay more and have better hours. I'm sure it's nice for part time but in terms of full time there's not that much mobility to move up. It's just the way the business is. But it's like this for all of retail not just lowes.
As for college well many retailers I see require a education for management. this could easily burn people if say they work at lowes and get laid off, get fired or quit. JC penny requires at least an associates as does Lay Z boy, Target requires a bachlors as does Trader Joes...
Lowes might impress me if they were professional but they aren't. Call buttons imply as if service is based on speed and not quality. There's no entry fee for entering the store or forms to fill out so they aren't prequalifying the customer...I've seen other retailers that hav enviroments that seem better.

Anything can be a career, Mdovell. You have to have the will or want to make it so. Careers aren't like they used to be. A person most likely will have numerous careers in their lifetime, as their wants and needs change. There are times when Retail Management is someones cup of tea. It certainly isn't for everyone. Just as being an accountant or being a trashman isnt for everyone. But they can both be careers to the people in those positions.

I can understand that to a point but there was plenty of people I know that could move up but frankly they can't.
if there's no openings then how can someone move up without openings?
If the training expires in six months and if training is required for anything from a dept manager and up this told me they don't really care....let's be honest here that makes no sense.
there's no such thing as part timer managers so right off the bat most can't move up..

Retail employment is most assuredly a different animal than employment in the corporate world, and I've spent years in both. The corporate world of management generally functions much differently from a professional point of view. In fact, when I first moved to Lowe's from a management position in corporate (got burned out), it was a culture shock. My corporate salary was almost 3x the salary I started out at Lowe's as a sales specialist and the "professional" in Lowe's (management) didn't come remotely close to what I experienced in my previous work experiences, from numerous perspectives. And I'm not speaking in positive terms. I haven't experienced many "professional" managers at the store level and that's just the type of animal that big-box retail brings to the table. I think a lot of that has to do simply with the warehouse environment which doesn't foster professionalism on many levels.

The problem is I'd say the company tries to imply professionalism when it largely isn't there. I'm not making a knock on the employees but rather the company. Some people honestly think that retired plumbers and electricians and carpenters work in these box stores...nothing could be further from the truth. I'm sure there might be some that are retired but it's not as if you can tell the customer how to do something and they'll remember it when they get home.
I remember some customer holding up some item and claiming that it "is not professional" well lady what do you expect? was there a membership fee to get in? The hours of the store are long...any type of supply house is usually open 8-5 and not open weekends. I've seen plumbing supply, electric supply, other paint chains, locksmiths you name it...and they are still in business.

It may be a good thing if Lowes patrols this sight. Maybe the higher ups patroling this sight will get some insight of what happens on the store level.

Don't be too sure. They all don't have a clue.
