I just found out that my husband received orders to go to Japan this summer. I would love to come back to Lowes when we get back to the States, but it won't be for about 3 years. Does anyone know if there is any policy about a dependant taking a leave of absence for military reasons? Or do I just have to say goodbye and hope to be a rehire when we return?

Not totally sure. I know for the national guard it is by law that they have to hold a job for deployments of people. Dependents for active duty I'm not sure. Check with hr and district hr.

I would definitely talk to your HR. I am pretty certain that the most leave time they can give a person who is not themselves being called to active duty is 6 months. But, your HR would be able to tell you what kinds of things you might want to make sure you do in order to better your chances of being rehired. Most times, if you are a hard worker, don't have any write-ups, and work out a full two weeks notice, you will be rehirable.

No. As a dependent you do not fall under the soliders and sailors act for a job. You will have to resign and then reapply in 3 years. Iam very familiar with provisions of these acts as a former DoD employee. (8 years). I doubt your hrm will keep you in the system for that long.
Please thank your husband for his service from me.
