Today, I went to my doctor to see if I qualified for Gastric Bypass Weight Loss surgery. Although my insurance acceps it, Lowe's is excluding the surgery.
The funny thing, two other women in my store, had it done a year ago. Has anyone else had this issue.
It just frusterating, that my insurance accpets it, but Lowe's does not!

I have BCBS insurance through Lowes. The procedure is covered through the insurance, however the employer (in this case Lowes) can still choose not to cover it (known as an exclusion). And according to my doctor, that is the case.

So can't you appeal? Isn't it a health issue? It's not like it wouldn't help them to have healthier associates covered under their plan.

I don't know where you are getting your information, but Lowes is not the insurance company. If BCBS approved the procedure they will pay for it. Lowes is not the insuror.

I also had the same problem, Insurance said yes but lowes excludes this from their coverage, they veiw it as elective.
It was explained to me by the insurance company, the lady said many companys choose to exclude it like any breast surgery even breast reduction. they see it as cosmetic.

Insurance companies are ruling the damned world. I have a college aged daughter living at home with us. She has a medical condition that requires birth control (she's still a virgin) the insurance company said that the nueva ring is $35/month because birth control isn't really covered under the insurance. Then again if we get her dr. office to fax them the documentation that it is being used as a medical and not birth control device the monthly bill goes down to $10/month. I just can't believe that this is such a difference.

Skibunny, you'd think the insurance company would be more than happy to pay $35 a month for BC, rather than a lump sum complicated delivery after 9 months!

You'd think so wouldn't you? Well, she's not even using it for birth control like I said above she's still a virgin and not even close to losing that status. It's kind of strange that for medical purposes they pay a higher rate than if you were trying to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. But then again I've heard it before that the insurance companies are running the world. I think that it is truer than we want to think.
