hi everybody.....
it has been a ahile since i have been on. i have been so busy.
i was just wondering i anybody heard about easter sunday and if they are doing it in your division. they now want any full timer or part timer to take a floating holiday for that day if they are normally scheduled that day. if not, the associate can just work the days they are scheduled or pick up extra hours somewhere else.
this is crazy and unfair to the associates.
this just came out on friday, so you might not hear about it until next week before the schedules drop on tuesday.

I was under the impression that we are closed on Easter. It has never been a paid holiday has it?

no guys, relax !!! Macy's little bitch (hee. love it) didn't say we're open on easter sunday. it is an UNPAID day off. what he is saying is macy's wants associates to use a floater holiday or personal day...(put it in to use that day, even tho we're closed) to make up for the day of pay you are losing. OR.. pick up an extra shift/hours to make up for that day.
basically (sp?) you will be getting paid for 4 days that week instead of 5 cuz we're closed. normally you could pick up more hours but there may not be any available hours to pick up cuz business is slow. so they are saying use your floater day (have never seen those so far) or your personal days.
my opinion? you know i have one. don't use your personal day for that if you can get by that week with one less day of pay. save your personal days for when YOU want to use them, not when they do.

That stinks! Up until now, they have always given us another day to work if Easter Sunday was our day to work, so we got the same amount of hours. I really don't care, I'd rather have one less day in hell, as polli said, but still, it doesn't seem fair.

MLBeast, you still haven't answered my question! Do you know anything about the small store stategy? All I keep hearing is that "changes" are coming in April, but no one will say what they are. Also, do you know what's happening with Fine Jewelry?

are you suprised that they would want us to sched. a personal day for that day? think of how many floating holidays that would get rid of company wide....leave us all open for a day that they would need us more. The heck with that.......
I cannot wait to get the day off! Looking forward to it here...and I will not be taking a personal day. I however will never hear it because I never work in the morning, and no one communicates with the night crew so I will probably be paid mine b/c I never said no.....

maycylady....how are you doing???
yes, i do know about what is going on in the small stores....small store strategy, but it is too mush to list here. are you in a small store??
i do know that macy's hired a consulting firm to come up with the small store strategy. it seems macy's was unfamiliar with running suck small stores like may did.
fine jewelry...what is happening in your store??? remember they are at different stages in different divisions. it depends on your division and region. i know in small stores they are doing away with the selling manager positions.
i believe that we will all see changes coming down the road. macy's is not doing as well as they want to. all these steps are to help them be more profitable before they have to close stores.

Had to stick my nose in....
I'm not sure why you are all complaining.. at least Macy's is closed Easter Sunday... unlike Sears which will remain open..while the rest of the mall is closed

MLBeast, I am so glad that you are back! Your input is always so helpful. Please give us some hints as to what to expect in the smaller stores. Yes, my store is one of the smaller ones, and we are not doing well. Our former Mayco customers WOULD like Macy's more if there was only enough help! In my city, people like to be treated well. It seems to me that Macy's would profit from hiring more sales people, even if it meant cutting a few dollars from the top. A consulting firm? Why not spend that money on sales associates? I could have saved them alot of money if they had "consulted" with me. My advice? Have adequate floor coverage, so that customers feel that you actually do want to sell them something!
And btw, I am doing well, thanks for asking. Please don't stay gone so long, we might need your advice!!!

After the Finkelstein disaster was blowing up at Macy's, Edward Finkelstein made the following statement:
A consultant is someone you hire to steal your watch and then tell you what time it is.
How true.... Why pay all that money only to hear the truth about hiring associates.

And why hire consultants if you aren't going to listen to them? Federated's consultants advised them NOT to purchase Mayco, but they did it anyway!!!
Recently, our store asked customers to complete a survey about how Macy's could better serve them. There were NO questions on the survey about the lack of sales associates, and no where on the survey to suggest that more associates are needed. It was a "controlled" survey. What good is that?

Why ask the customer what you already know?

hey all. i did not hear anything about associates using their personal day for easter sunday. however i DID see the ops mgr running around yesterday trying to get hours for all that wanted it for the week of easter. i keep telling people i'm more than happy to give them one of my days even if it's only 4 hrs.
sears is open on easter? wow . that really sucks. probably cuz K-mart is open too as well as walmart. pretty soon we'll be open too.
thanks again for the info as always, MLB !!

MONEY, don't get too confident on that "always will be closed" stuff. remember this past christmas where they had a store ( or more than one) open 24/7 right up till christmas eve. they are very greedy and if more stores open on the major holidays "for the convenience of our customers", macy*s will do it. you can bet on that.

Both Sears and J.C. Penney will be open for Easter in our mall. You know what that means... next year Macy's will probably be open too.
MLB, no one in our store has been asked if they want extra hours to make up for Easter. No one has been asked if they want to take a personal day either but that doesn't surprise me since mgmt. often will tell an associate that there is no budget in a response to a personal day request.

Macy's Mess, your store sounds worse than mine, and mine is hard to beat! They cannot deny you an owed personal day due to the budget. Are we sharing the same OPS manager?
