Is anyone else having hours cut in your store? It's crazy. Is this part of the new "Small Store Strategy"???
MLB, I need some info!

It doesn't matter which retail store you work in. The economy in general is down so shoppers are being extra careful. The retail industry is taking a hit so budgets are being cut, hours are being slashed, and employees are being let go. Prepare for another recession.

I got my check in the mail today from Macy's for my vested amount. They took out the taxes, but it is about half of what my take home pay was for a year. The check is dated April 1st, so I can't deposit it until Tuesday, so I hope Macy's doesn't go under until after then. Don't do like Enron.

South, since you were vested, did you get the entire amount in your account, minus taxes? How much did they take out for takes?
I'm considering quitting, so I need to know what I will get.
Beware, I am told that they do not take out your state taxes, so you will have to pay them yourself.

I did only 8 hours this week. We did not have hours, but I am doing 27 hours for the next to weeks. Don't worry Macy's is the best.

Macy's sucks. You think you will get 27 hours, but I bet they will call you and tell you that they had to cut hours AGAIN!

The only reason I did 8 hours is because we was closed for easter. But I picked up extra hours for the following weeks. They are not going to cut those hours, if they was going to cut my hours they would had done it already. I am like god to them over in macys. I think the reason my macys is the best is because the store manager used to be an employee for A&S in my store. So he trys to makes Macys a happy place for everybody. Macys Rocks!

They took out federal tax of 30%. No state tax was withheld.

I just read where I wrote takes...I meant taxes.
So, did you get the entire amount, what you put in AND what they matched? Or only what you put in. Of course, I know they will take out taxes, I'm just wondering if I will get the whole amount, minus the tax.

We thankfully don't have a state income tax (of course Georgia does and I am moving to Georgia in a little over a month) but the taxes here are insane. Average hotel tax in my hometown is 16%, sales tax is 10%, and the list goes on and on!

small store strategy and cutting hours are two different things.
they could be cutting hours because of not making sales plan, being over hours for the week, having to pay back hours for being over last week...etc.
there is so much to the small store strategy. it has been coming out in bits and pieces as they implement new concepts. it effects many different areas. the biggest rumor in my area is that ops managers will will have two small stores. there is also a rumor about doing away with scheduling managers.
mm's will be in charge of the dock. security has new responsibilities also. also, they have cut security positions and have done away with gift wrap in many stores in our region. they have streamlined the vault procedures and did away with positions.
i do believeif the company does not do better, there will be more cuts in the summer when the OPNET comes out in late june early july.

The money I got was the 100% vested money, that I think was the pension fund. I did not have a 401k, because I could not afford that. They actually gave me an option as to whether to have the tax taken out or not, and I chose not, but they did anyway. I guess they didn't trust me.

I was wondering if Terry Lundgren's salary will be cut as part of all the cut backs?

MLBeast, thanks for the info. I think it's really crappy of macy's to cut people's hours. What if I told them that I wasn't coming to work this week b/c I am cutting my hours???

maycylady.....if you are in a base position and guaranteed a certain amount of hours, then they can not cut your hours. so, if you are a 20 hour associate you must get 20 hours. anything over that, they can cut!!
where as in hearald square, the staff was tripping over each other because there are so many sales associates, but i guess when you are making 3 million a day...unlike our stores!!!
it was the last day of the flower show at the 34th street store, and i must say macy's did a nice job maintaining all the flowers throughout the event.
i am not a big flower show person...but a friend of mine in delaware wanted to see some pics of it, so i took some today when i was shopping. if anybody would like to see them, email me at macysworker@gmail.com. i will send you the pictures. i am warning you now....i am no photographer!!! lol

MLB, have you heard anything about a time frame on the possibility that small store OPS Mgrs. will be sharing 2 stores? It would not surprise me since this has been done for quite some time with HR Mgrs {with unfortunate delays in relaying info in a timely manner and in putting thru payroll corrections, I might add.} The scary thing is that our OPS. Mgr is the only exec who knows all of the rules and it won't be pretty if this person is frequently not available.

I hope the OPS mgr has to share a job in my store. I can't stand her and the less I see her the better!

the scheduling mgr was covering 2 stores for quite a while from our store. he left to be an office mgr in another store in another city (a promotion). we have a person who does BOTH the scheduling and HR stuff. talk about stress.
Macy's Little Bitch....if they do away with the scheduling mgrs, then they'll have to let the gsm's do the input-ing (spelling?) again. cuz right now the gsms cannot make any changes to the schedules. they must all go thru the scheduling mgrs.
