I got suspended today. I was set up by Security. I found a $50 gift cards and a $10 CASH by my locker. I first put the gift card and cash in my locker, and went down stairs to help customers, then when back upstair to get the card and cash about 5 mins later to bring to lost & found. About 30 mins later security went and got me. I am susended until futher notice. Do they have anything on me, could they fire me. I did return the stuff before they stopped me. I was be honest. Could I sue them for stopping me because they did stopped me and I did not have the stuff on me. Any help please. The case is pending with HR and Security. Because it is the weekend HR is close. MLB what could I do. I need you. Thanks.

First of all, Money, I'm sorry that happened to you. What did they say to you when they suspended you? Did they tell you to clock out and go home? Did you lose your temper? You need to call the HR 800 number and make a complaint before Monday. Also, write down on paper what happened to you, including times and places. You may need that later. If security did this to you, they may say that they were testing you or may have had just cause to do it, so it would be your word against theirs. Good luck.

Yes they told me I am suspended until further notice. They said if I don't here from them by Tuesday and Wednesday give him a call. I told him that means I have to clock out now and go home he said yes. But before all that, I told the guy I am going to be honest to you and I told him the truth. I even went to my GSM after I gave the stuff to lost & found so I don't look guilty. I told my GSM I saw the stuff by my locker. I put the gift card in my locker and the cash in my pocket. I went down stairs "helped a customer" than had a change of heart. I went upstairs got the stuff put it back in the small plastic bag it was in. Remember it was just laying on the floor. Than took it to L & F. About 45 mins - 60 mins security took me upstairs even tho I returned the stuff. I did not leave the building or anything I returned it less than 5 mins when I took it. After security talked to me and suspended me, I went to my GSM and told him they suspended me. His reaction was "Bullsh*t". He went upstairs to get everything fix. They would not tell him anything. But he siad he is going to fight for me. He also went to another Security supervisor but he didn't know what was going on yet. The guy that was talking to me gave me both supervisor phone #. I am looking for lawyers right now. I am trying to get some advise. I return the stuff before security stopped me. It is not like I still had the stuff on me and I said I was going to return the stuff. My GSM said I did not do anything wrong.
P.S. Do you think I should contact Compliance connections they are open 24/7. The website
www.macysComplianceconnections.com
Macys always saying "Integrity Always means doing the right thing" I did do the right thing by returning the stuff.

I did called Compliance connections about this. They said I made the right decision about coming to them about this. Security is lying about it was an associate, they planted the stuff there. Come on. Why would an associate call security that they lost thier stuff. Then why Security just didn't just go to the locker room and get the small bag as soon as the employee called. The bag was sitting up their for more then 1 hour. Then when I returned the items to L&F why did security come in 2 mins to pick up the items, then they waited 45 mins the picked me up. It is a conflict of interest for security to set you up so they could get thier bonuses and then lie to you telling you that it was an associate. What about "Integrity Always". When security picked me up I didn't have anything on me. I was being honest about it. He is concerned that I put the cash in my pocket and the gift card in the locker, but i did returned it before security stopped me. If I have to go up ladder to fight this thing I will. I have my GSM backing me up. I called Compliance connections about this so hopefully they will back me up. If I have to go to Insite I will. This regional detective was new so maybe he is trying to make himself look good by catching people stealing. This is wrong!!! And they picked me up even when I didn't steal.

South I didn't lose my tamper. I was honest on what happened.
Also with Compliance connections they give you an referance # and pin # to access your pending file, and you can print the statement you gave Compliance connections. They wrote the statement so good. They got the times and the events so perfect. I am going to fight Macys hard. This is round 1.

wow. wow. sorry about that, Money. that IS wrong that they "plant" stuff to see what you'll do, but unfortunately they somehow are allowed to do that. they did that in our store when it was mayco. it is a test to see what you'll do.
i'm sure you thought you were doing the right thing, but in there are eyes you didn't.
you should have done one of two things: either ignore it completely like you didn't see it, or (2): pick it up and take it right to either your cash office if you have one or the executive office where they have lost and found (at least in our store, that's where it is). the fact that you took it and INTENDED to bring it to L&F is not good enough. you put the money in your pocket (WTF? not a good idea) and the gift card in your locker. now it is in your possession. now it looks like you went back to work, thought about it and had a change of heart (or guilt) and returned it hoping you wouldn't get caught. i'm saying this is what it looks like to them. it doesn't look good, BUT you seem to have a good rapport with your security and for sure with your GSM. a lot of the outcome will be up to your Store Manager in the end.
years ago, a friend of mine (co-worker) did something not so kosher. her gsm was and still is a very good friend to her, and tried every which way to get it taken care of. she even called corporate, i believe. but the SM at the time didn't ever want to get involved in "lower level" stuff and wouldn't stick up for my friend. she got fired. BUT what she did was NOT a setup by L&P. p.s. she said getting fired was the best thing to happen to her.
i found a few gift cards over the years. i told another associate and I took it to L&F. after 30 days if "customer" doesn't pick it up, i get to keep it. and i did. i found another gift card on the floor over a month ago. i couldn't leave the floor so i kept it very visible with a note on it right by the register. i think a customer probably dropped it out of their pocket. i walked that gift card down to the office with it right out in my hand, knowing security was probably watching my every step to make sure i went straight to the office. they probably were not even watching me, i'm just paranoid. i'm super honest. mayco-security all knew that, but macy's is still only 2 yrs old to me. which reminds me i have to check on that monday to see if it was picked up. i always give it to the secretary and she puts a note on it, but a gsm took it and i am afraid i'll never see it again.
but they DO plant it to catch people. usually they are newbies and not so honest. sounds like you can get it worked out. just remember as we told you a year ago, just because you are chummy with security doesn't mean they aren't watching you. when they catch an associate it is a MUCH bigger 'bonus ' to them than a customer is. security has a quota each month to catch people. it's like the cops at the end of the month....they tend to be out there more catching speeders.
anyway good luck to you. keep us posted......norma rae

One of my first jobs was working in a vault at a bank. I realized early on that there was no way I could take the money without getting caught. I became immune to the money. One day, I was walking down the street at lunch with a friend. There was a $20 bill on the sidewalk, and I stepped over it. My friend yelled if I hadn't seen the money, and he bent down and picked it up. I told him that I had, but it wasn't my money. I tell you that story, because it is words to live by. If the honesty is on your side, you'll be okay.

Normarae, It would of been a different story if they planted it on the selling floor. It was in the locker room where I thought their was no cameras. If I saw it on the selling I would of bought it to L&F. But is there a law that prevent cameras in the locker room where people sometime change. It is like finders keepers. I saw it in front of my locker. I didn't technicly steal from the company. I did not steal merchdise or their money. When they stopped me I did not even had the stuff on me. I am trying to find out my rights. I know a customer they have leave the building before they stop them. But what about an associate stealing, what if they put it back before they stop you.

Sorry Money, you're fired. You didn't follow procedures and it what appeared on camera looks questionable! Start finding another job while you're on suspension! Macy's does not believe in excuses!

I am trying to stay positive. I think to main issue is the missing bag of candy they can't find who took it. I did return the items before they came to me. I am trying to get people on my side. I told them the truth on what happened. MLB where are you? What can I do. The detective said they might just give me a disciplinary warning, but he don't know what they might do. He said it was a good thing that I returned the item when I did. If I was in any real trouble they would of probably fired me on the spot. Right? I would find out my faith in a few days. Wish me luck.

ok money.....your last post makes you sound guilty, so do not say that to anybody. you can not say "finders keepers".
so, you walk into your locker room, find $10.00 and a gift card. you put the gift card in your locker and the $10.00 in your pocket, correct? you go onto the selling floor and return later to hand in the money and gift card to lost and found. when you handed it in, what did you tell them? how did security know that you put the gift card in your locker and money in your pocket and then went to the selling floor?? these items belonged to another associate, correct??
i am sorry this happened to you, but you should have turned it in right away before going to the sales floor. that is what i believe security will say.
i am glad your gsm is supporting you, but it will be security and hr that will decide.
if you are able to go back to work, make sure you are paid for any shift that you missed while you were suspended.

They saw the whole thing on camera in the locker room. They say it was an associate but I feel security put the items there. If security knew the items was thier why they just didn't go and get it. It would of been a different story if I was leaving the building with the stuff or security stopped me on the selling floor. I would have been caught and I couldn't say "I was going to return it" I would of been guilty and It would of seemed I was lying if I told them that. Do you think calling Compliance connections was a good idea. Do you think I should also call Instore solutions about this. I did returned it in the first place.

Yes to both of your questions. It just seems that maybe this is a real problem at your store, and they want to make an example of you. Just make sure that you have all of what happened to you in writing and document times and places. CYA

When I called Compliance connections they wrote the statement I told them, they wrote down the time and places where this happened and then I printed out the statement I gave them. I even printed out my TIA review, because the time I told them will match my TIA review. I was being very honest with them. I was not hiding behind the bushes, I was very truthful. They also felt the reason I turned in the stuff is because they feel I knew I was being watch. Do you think I should also call the in store HR. To explain to them what happened because they will have a say so on what will happen to me or I should just call instore solutions. I really can't wait until this is over with.

Money, they have cameras everywhere and anywhere. They are going to protect their assets in anyway they can. Especially at Macy's where small merchandise can be easily concealed in a locker room..... You have a good point though about it being in the locker room & not the selling floor.
In Tennessee I believe it is only dressing room stalls and bathrooms that are prohibited.

A Belk store in Macon GA suspected cosmetic associates were stealing. So, they put cameras in their changing room. The associates found out about the camera and sued. They won on invasion of privacy. If it could be determined that the area where your lockers are located is a private zone, then you would have a case in that regard. Just a thought.

Do you think I should seek legal advice about this. I turn the stuff in before I got stopped. In the fitting room they have signs that their are cameras watching you and that you are being watch by same sex security. But in the locker room thier are no signs that state that. My GSM told me they could have cameras because it is not a changing room, but people do change in the locker rooms. And the worse part is we have two locker rooms, a men and ladies locker room, but men and female share both locker rooms. We have ladies that have lockers in the male room and men that have lockers in the ladies locker room. Macys is not forcing that rule, we basicly have same sex looker rooms. I feel a lawsuit coming up. LOL
I am going to call instore solutions tomorrow, but do you think I should call a lawyer also. Thank you for the help from everybody. I appreciate it. I don't know what I would do if it wasn't for you people. MLB anymore advice would be helpful. Do you think I would have any case with the locker room thing. I do hate sharing the men locker room with the females. HR once tried to inforce it by placing signs stating no ladies allowed in male locker rooms, but that didn't helped.
