I've worked for Lowe's for quite a while. I've tried to be a loyal employee, despite the fact that people less qualified get paid more. I guess the straw that broke the camel's back came today. I've been a department manager for almost a year and a half. In January, I was approached by my store and ops manager to take another dm position because I had experience in the department and the position had been vacant too long. I specifically asked them if moving would affect my MTP application. I was told POINT BLANK that it would not. So I was a team player and went where I was needed.
The deadline for MTP was 4/11/08. I asked my store manager today (who is new, and not the sm who asked me to move) when we would hear about the class. I was told "not to take this the wong way" but I wouldn't be able to enter the class because I had not been in my position for six months.
WTF?
I have been screwed by Lowe's...once again. I don't understand how they can hire people off the street and put them in MTP, but you can't put a current department manager in. I guess what I need to know is this: Is this politics at work?? Is this an issue that my sm could push if he wanted to?
I'm sorry this post is so negative, but I am greatly disturbed. Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

If you were a dept manger before you changed departments you actually do qualify. You have to be in the position (dept manager) not the department (say ISLG) for 6 months.

Yes, they are feeding you a line. You may want to approach this new SM. Let him know what you were advised to do by transferring departments to help out the team. It may let him know that you are more of a team player than he thinks.
