Thee WSJ is reporting that Steve and Barry's has hired bankruptcy attorneys and is seeking debtor in possession financing to the tune of 40 million dollars. Estimates of what is on the horizon for Steve and Barry's include closing a minimum of 100 stores or even liquidating the entire company by the end of the current year.

The company recently defaulted on a loan from General Electric to the tune of $200 Million......

Anybody ever shopped here?

Yes, and when we changed out our Mayco stock for Macy's stock, we paid over $70.00.

Macy's 52 week high was around 46. This was a gain the stock made after the stock split. $35 reflects the stock split. So the price you paid to exchange should have been around the accurate price. You should have double the original amount of Macy's stock.

Still, had the stock not split. The current price would be around $35. In other words the company has lost half of its value.

1. The economy is in a tail spin, gas prices are so high that consumers can no longer afford to shop "as frequently" at stores such as Macy's.
2. The housing market has changed dramatically. Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's, and other major "home decor" retailers have recorded significant losses due to this market.

Yet, the board of directors has not acted in any way on Lundgren as a result of this exceptionally low stock price...... Maybe the next stock split they will pay you in Macy Money.

Intraday High $22.04
Intraday Low $20.81
52 Week High $45.50
52 Week Low $20.94

OK! So Macy's is now trading at a low of $20.81 which is less than half of what it has been in the last 52 weeks and 40 cents higher than its all time low!

How much you bet that they give him another raise!!!

Lundgren has really devalued the company stock!

At its highest the available Macy's stock was worth: $332,955,122.5
Three Hundred Thirty Two Million Nine Hundred Ninety Five Thousand One Hundred Twenty Two Dollars and Fifty Cents.

It is now worth: $153,232,533.3
One Hundred Fifty Three Million Two Hundred Thirty Two Thousand Five Hundred Thirty Three Dollars and Thirty Cents

For a difference of: $179,722,589.2
One Hundred Seventy Nine Million Seven Hundred Twenty Two Thousand Five Hundred Eighty Nine Dollars and Twenty Cents

Because of Lundgren's devaluation of this company it has lost more money than it is currently even worth! When is the board of directors going to take a note and impeach the incompetent chairman?

That is provided that I figured my numbers correctly, and it is highly likely I did, but shouldn't be off by much

Stores are running on less than 20 hrs per day fitting rooms are being left open since staff levels cannot accomodate...suspension of all intra-company UPS transfers....revenue is being generated thru malls paying us to be there not by the products we sell so the only way we can sustain ourselves are to 1. open more stores or 2. drastically change the business model. ANY employees or otherwise pls see my thread STEVE snd BARRYS are you drinking the KOOL-AID. This is a privately owned company so disclosure of financials are VERY different than public in terms of what they have to report to the public. Its all coming to light now and I have a pain in an area a hetrosexual male shouldn't. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

UMMMMMMM...... Steve and Barry's stores always smell funny..... Seeing the news report that I saw earlier I would say bankruptcy is imminent and its a matter of when not if they file bankruptcy. Shame to, they have decent clothes for 9.98.....

MAYcylady! I'VE MISSED YOU! No one has been on for several days!

I was going to plan a vacation for my spring break now and go to the beach. Holiday Inn is $415 and Hilton is $89. Something is wrong with that picture.

Steve and Barry's came into my old mall as an anchor a year ago after Penney's left. I went in there a couple of times. I liked the T-shirts they sold. But, you are right about the smell.

So I am not crazy, those stores do have an odd smell......

Yes I reserved at The Hilton. I know the water will probably be to cold in February but the beach should still be comfortable, or so I hope.

The Holiday Inn must be having a convention or the front desk manager was drunk when he put the rates in. That was the most absurd thing I ever heard!

UMMMM, no its not a southern thing. I believe they started in upstate New York somewhere. They are a discount clothing chain that sells everything in their store for no more than $20. Usually around $9.98 or 2 for $14.98.

Usually it is geared to sports apparel or collegiate apparel. However the stores are usually located in former big box locations such as JC Penney stores or Kmart's. The one hear occupies half of a former Home Depot.

Their big thing right now is Sex in The City and Sarah Jessica Parker's new line Bitten.

I'm just saying that you are planning way ahead of time. What if, by then, you need a room for TWO???

Actually, it's good that you are a planner. I do everything at the last minute, and it drives my husband crazy. In fact, he took over the vacation planning this year. Yay, my years and years of procrastination have finally paid off! He doesn't even realize that he has played right into my evil plan! Thumbs Up

I went ahead and made those reservations now because they should be cheaper by booking 8 months in advance. I keep forgetting that I actually have a real salary now. I think they were having a computer glitch, I can't imagine how they honestly anticipated getting those rates.....

Even if I don't go and cancel, at least I got an amazing rate.

We aren't hating you... Most of us have known each other at least for a year or more and we all have our own sense of humors. As retail workers and former workers we all feel for MOST everybody at Steve and Barry's, especially those who will be loosing their jobs when they are not at fault for anything but doing their jobs. Steve and Barry's is an excellent store and has fairly good products for their prices - I mean, a winter coat for $7.98, Cant beat it! As far as the smell is concerned the first one I went to was in Nashville TN at Hickory Hollow Mall and it had an odd smell to it. The one near me now has a light version of the smell, but much more tolerable. Maybe it's just me..... Please don't take it the wrong way, we all feel for you, and wish you the best of luck. It's my hope Steve and Barry's can weather this storm, because the prices are terrific on a teachers salary Smile
