This was the first "visit" of our new Macy's Central crew of regional/divisional whomevers. They chose 6:00 PM the night of the Preview Day of the One Day Sale to tour the store. We were criticized for clothing on the wrap stands in the ready to wear areas. Never mind that these areas were very busy with that ten dollar giveaway. The days before associates were windexing any glass, mirror they could find, getting on hands and knees and dusting racks, etc. The store was clean, very clean. The next morning a specialist from Better Sportswear found a note written in dust next to a back stockroom. The note said "You can get fired for this". Are these people for real? Is dust more important than taking care of customers and trying to get dressing rooms clean and stock put back on the racks? One of the woman on this "crew" was running her fingers along the glass tops of the showcases in fashion jewelry claiming: "I see some dust here". Do customers care about dust? Is this the new "small store strategy" that the Macy's Company is moving forward with? If so, SELL YOUR STOCK and buy Johnson and Johnson (Pledge, etc.)

We had a visit too, and our store was a wreck, due to the 2 day 1 day sale. The regional said "GOOD!", b/c that meant that we were very busy.
If they looked for dust in my store, they would definitely find what they were looking for!
I don't think that it is the associates' job to keep the store clean. Yes, we should straighten, and if you have a counter, you should windex it, but to dust is not our job, IMO. Of course, management disagrees with me, I know, b/c my SM told me to dust the 4-ways one day. I was like "Dust? How do you do that? Can you show me how?"
Once, when we were May, we were informed that the regionals would be looking to see if there was dirt in the cosmetic/fragrance cases. I had to use a hand vac and vacuum the inside of the cases. It must have been the first (and only) time this was ever done, b/c you would not believe the dirt and dust that came out of those things! And guess what? They didn't even look at them when they came.

No! Buy ECOLAB! Macys will be to cheap to pay for name brands such as Windex or other SC Johnson & Wax products.

Why Polli, how dare you think that! You should be ashamed. Why they only make 300,000 a year. The poor things. You should open the bar when they come to your store.

I vote we reinstall that beautiful wine department. I can't believe they got rid of it. Then again in Tennessee there is a lot of liability with departments like that. As a matter of fact Macy's is prohibited by law from selling it in Tennessee.
But I live in Georgia Now and I think they can in Atlanta.....

No, Georgia is plenty wet The county I live in is dry. They do not allow the sale of hard liquors. However Grocery stores can sell wines and beer here. Thats it. You go to the county next to me and they have liquor stores and hablar espanol!
Well dry in areas if you mean water

welcome to macy*s. we're having a visit tomorrow too from our regional pinhead. we haven't seen him in a while. 3 whole weeks in fact !! then he was here almost 3 weeks before that !! i swear he just keeps coming to visit to justify him keeping his job. everyone is running around like crazy as usual. mmm.... except for me, of cours. i could care LESS about the visits.
the rolling racks are stuffed to the brim...usually at least 3 in each dept. and the dust was crazy up in housewares. i did my very best to avoid doing any kind of dusting/windexing. i rarely do it at home...i'm not gonna do it at work. tho i did help put stuff away when i could.
yes, i think all the visits are purely to make them feel good, walk around with their frigging entourage all in black suits and as i said before, justify keeping their jobs !!!

Ahh, the lovely store visits/suck-upthroughs/walkthroughs. How I loathe them. Sometimes they act as though Jesus were personally coming over to visit. A portion of the time, they do not even pay careful notice as to what goes on.
Due to our store size, our store manager is also our regional vice president (Herald Square is a region unto ourselves.) She had passed through the floor before store hours one day, and started speaking with the operations manager. She went to one of the display tables and ran her hand across it, and commented about how filthy the fixtures are. In terms of dust, they can be that anal.

I never understood why they would give advance notice of their coming. If it were me, I would just show up and see how the store really is. We had a visit once on the day after Thanksgiving, and the suits complained about the chaos.

Normarae, I'm with you...I don't like to do it at my own house, so WHY would I get a job where I have to?
And South, I have always wondered the same thing...WHY do they tell us when they are coming? Isn't the goal for the store to be the right way all the time, for CUSTOMERS, not for the regionals?
I would love to have their jobs, to walk through and look at everything. But THEN I would have to spend all day in the SM's office, and I try to avoid that at all cost!

That is what I have never understood about these suckupthroughs--I mean walkthroughs. In my case, all the RVP needs to do is come down to the department and see what a hot mess we are. And yet, they go in a frenzy trying to hide everything that is suspicious as though everything is going by smoothly.
In the meantime, mine eyes hath seen the glory of the coming of Ron Klein . . .

Well Aeropostale just turned 21. I guess Macy's is having a late in life child. I mean Macy's just turned 150!
