back to the topic of this thread....
yikes. now we're having another freaking visit and this time it's someone VERY big......ooh... i'm shaking in my boots....NOT !!
some kind of VP of whatever.... like you know i care about this one. yeh, right.
thank the lord i won't be on that day this week. this entourage will be MUCH bigger than last week's. yes, you read that right. last week's. we've been having lots of visits. i say something is up. why else would we be having so many visits? this is like the 4th one in 1 and 1/2 months. wonder if our SM is gonna be moved after this??????? makes me wonder. hope not. she's really nice.
anyone else having major visits lately? it sure as hell isn't cuz our sales are so fabulous. our numbers are ALWAYS below expectations of sales for the day.

We are getting a "revisit" tomorrow to make sure their suggestions/demands were made. Managers worked Sunday nite 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM Monday doing floor moves and whatever.. I can't wait to see what they will have us associates do today.. Managers were seen dusting yesterday!!

From what we have all been experiencing with all the frequent visits, this must be the big roll out of the small store strategy program. The stores will never get out from under Macy's thumb now. The regional mgrs. will be constantly using pressure to get results.

Oooo...you should have taken a picture. I would have loved to have seen what a manager looks like dusting!

We have been having alot of visits too. My guess is that it's part of the elusive "small store strategy".
Associates have been threatened that they will have to be accountable to the regional for their sales goals! Ha ha ha!
I guess next, they will hold the customers accountable for not spending enough money!

MAYcyLady it's the same old song playing in our store too... all assoc's must at all times know their current scorecard numbers as well as the zone average. The really sad thing is that many of the "newer" assoc's can't remember what they had for breakfast let alone where they stand on all the scorecard metrics. This all falls into the Macy strategy of "hire cheap, get less"

exactly, which is why I don't understand how they think that I am going to spring into action and help them get the place in shape. Shouldn't they have been helping me keep the place together all along? FOR OUR CUSTOMERS? not the men (or ladies) in black. I think that is a novel idea seeing how the customers bring us sales, not the entourage (sp?)

When I was a little kid, and we had company over to our house, my parents would make me clean up everywhere. I never understood, because a living room, by definition, is where you live. A playroom, by definition, is where you play. But, all of the rooms had to be clean and artificial for company. I see that approach with Macy's too. Don't show the store the way it really is. Show it the way the big shots want to see it, and then go back to your old ways after they leave. If a store was spotless, then I would be worrying about how much business you do.

Even if it was already perfect, they would still find flaws with it.

Has anyone EVER been asked by any of the big wigs about their sales or credit??? My experience with store visits is they don't even talk to the lowly sales associate! Scare tactics all the time! Sure brings up employee morale!

They don't even schedule me on the days of the visits because they have witnessed me talking to them first hand. I forget what I said, but I will never forget the reaction of my store manager as the laughed like I was joking.... HAHAHAHA

yeh, this visit tomorrow is supposedly somebody way above our regional pinhead. the gsm's were very concerned about having clothes sized but i did not see anyone dusting, nor did anyone ask me. (they know better !! )
but stuff did look dusted, so maybe it was done last nite. anyway, i don't care...i'm off anyway.
\
but like you, MAYcylady, oy, could i give them an earful.
when we used to have visits at Mayco, the bigwigs actually did ask us stuff. these macy's bigwigs have their attitudes so far up their ass , they don't even talk to us lowly peons !!!
it was funny, today it was like a previsit visit. the regional jewelry big shot gal (she thinks she is) was there today, talking loudly so everyone in the frigging store knows she is there.

Thats how it usually works. I know at Lowe's our big wigs would run around and run their fingers over the merchandise and displays. Then they would gripe about the dust on everything. Of course they always put the dustiest merchandise at the entrance to the garden center.
Macy's big wigs are little peons when it comes to the all mighty peon Terry Lundgren. He will stomp them with his thumb!

A few years ago, we had a visit. One of the big boys asked me a question about how business could be better, so I told them. I was pretty honest about the lack of support from supervisors in following up with customer complaints. I made a very good impression on the boys, because after they left, my supervisor came to me and literally banned me from speaking to them again. She told me that at the next visit I was to go into the stockroom and hide. I did that the next time, until the boys wanted to know where I was, and I came out of the stockroom. Then, I had to explain as to why I was in there, instead of being on the floor. That's why my supervisors didn't like me, because I knew more than them and was not afraid to tell them.

When I worked at Food Lion, this guy came in and didn't bother to introduce himself or anything. He just walked into the office, came out flipped on a cashier light and started acting like he owned the place. I was offended by his actions and had just got ready to say "WHO IN THE WORLD DOES HE THINK HE IS?" when the cashier finally jabbed me in the side and told me who the jerk was.
He was our DM/RVP.

South, that's funny. I would never hide in the stockroom...unless I was hiding from customers...

Wait, how did she go into the stockroom to hide from customers to coming out of the closet?

We had a lady in cosmetics that would run into the stockroom and hide every time that she saw a customer that she knew was annoying. She always said "I am sorry, but I do not make enough money to deal with people like that." I always thought it was interesting, though, b/c since she was hiding from them, someone else did have to wait on them, so I guess she thought that the rest of us did make enough to wait on crazy customers.

I did that too when I worked in China. There was a couple of women who would want to order a mess of China, but after spending $1000, they would complain about the $16.95 shipping fee and then cancel the order. You would think that would be the last time you would see them, but they would come back and do it again. When I would see them coming, I would go into the stockroom.
