It's the new scheduling system I was talking about a few months back...aka Kronos...where you'll be scheduled a few days and have to choose your remaining days to fill out you schedule.
Sorry I don't have any new info...the initial material I've seen is very ra ra...and the pilot stores will start to hear that in July....like MB said they start it in August....and it will be throughout the company in Feb 2009. There is 1 pilot store per region. I don't think a lot of people will leave because of it, but I'm sure it'll cause a lot of anxiety since it's so different from what everyone's used to.

Oh yes, I remember now. You don't think people will leave b/c of it? I think they will. Who wants to have to scrounge to get their hours in?
Frankone, what is the purpose of this? If the hours are there, why not just schedule people?

The "long-timers" will probably not let it force them out, b/c we are stubborn, and also b/c we know we can't make the same wage elsewhere, but what is there to keep an associate making $7.50/hr, if they can't even depend on their hours every week?

Well when they started myschedule everyone was rah rah about that too! And they are already doing away with it?? Go back to letting the dept managers make their schedules. It is the only way to cover the floor and be fair about the schedule.

this is what frank mentioned a couple of months ago.

reading some litterature about it, i noticed that it will schedule your weekend days based on your rotation. the schedule drops on a sunday and you have until tuesday to pick shifts. it is basically who signs in first to pick up the shifts they want. you can choose shifts from monday to friday. to remain eligible for benefits, full timers must work at least 35 hours and part timers must average 12-15 hours per week.

now, what happens with oca's? are they able to pick at the same time?? how do they get hours??

also, in the litterature that i saw, i really did not see any mention of a scheduling manager. i know there are divisional coordinators for the 21 stores testing this out. they will report back on how it is going.

See this is how MACYS will save Money..while you may think its a good ideal MLB and frankone it isnt..Because if you dont have a computer to pick up the hours..you must be in the store to do it..Then if you cant get enough hours..after they are pick over MACYS WINS..yes they sure do..hence they dont have to give benefits....this dont make you think people wont leave..I do at my store..they will retired earlier and MACYS WINS AGAIN..lets get the cheap cost in..and people who dont care..I take the bus when I cant get a ride..But hey that is okay..who cares..Please dont tell me THIS COMPANY CARES FOR THEIR ASSOCIATES.. Doh! They robbed from the poor and keep to themselves and take credit for what work we do for their select charties..if we are lucky we might get a cookie or hotdog BUT HEY TEAM DOES WIN..

ok. say there are 2 full timers in a dept. one doesn't have a computer, the other does. does the one with the computer get to pick all the choice hours...such as 9:30 to 6 and the other one gets stuck with lots of 1 - 9:30 's ??? or if they both don't have a computer, whoever happens to work 11:00 on sunday gets first dibs? and can the choices be made on the register at work?
that really doesn't make any sense.

anyone here actually use that system anywhere? can you explain to us how it actually works? thanks.

so i see on the individual "blue colored" metrics sheets that are written up for specific depts ... a gsm writes in, "have you picked your vacations yet? if you haven't see me or else they will be picked for you !! "

WTF ?????? what the hell is wrong with her? ok, she's a somewhat new manager and her managerial skills have not been honed, so to speak, but come on !!!! i told the associate that was bullshit and that she has till the first week of november to pick her vacays. the manager has NO RIGHT picking a week for them !!

geez !! do i have to do everything?

oh, and while i'm on a roll here..... Doh! this gal in another dept tells me she did not get a lunch the other day. she called and no one was sent to relieve her. she said she was afraid to keep calling...she didn't want to get fired. OMG. this gal is so sweet. so i gave her the straight poop. as well as that being not nice to do to her, it's also against the law. she is supposed to get an hour lunch AND a 20 minute break. the poor gal ate half her sandwich in the fitting room - she had medication to take as well. i told her if no one comes, keep calling a manager every 5 minutes. if NO ONE was around, a manager should have covered her lunch.

then i told her to be SURE TO TELL a manager or executive in the office that she did NOT get a lunch, cuz they WILL take that hour out anyway...even if she did not punch out. she had no idea about this.

oh gawd, would i love to start a union uprise in my store. Evil or Very Mad

i feel like i have to take care of these sweet newbies, like a veteran did with me. i told them cuz macy's will take advantage of them if you let em.

Just the opposite happened when the managers made their owns schedules in my store...they played favorites and gave people no nights, etc., while those they didn't like as much still had to work their 2 nights...that's part of the reason they took making schedules away from them, and that's the reason they took away their editing ability with myschedule. They still try to do it in my store, but since they have to get it by the sched. mgr., it doesn't fly...

Norma,
No one uses this yet in Macy's, so you're probably not going to get any feedback on it...all your vacations should've been picked in the spring for the whole year...the mgr. can not approve them if they want, but they cannot "pick them for you"...that was way off base...break policy is that one is not to be put in for you if you don't take one, but unfortunately some associates choose to go to lunch and not clock, so they get paid for it, so some store do this...but it's a big no-no to automatically put in unpaid breaks.

There has to be some parts of this new schedule that we are not hearing about because it sounds like a total $%^& up! And we know Macy's would never do anything that is a total &^%$ up. But from what we know about it now, it seems as if it would NEVER work. Whose gonna pick those 7AMs and 11PMs on the ODS. Not me I can tell you that. For heaven's sake, scheduling is not that big of a deal. Why can't Macy's figure it out? The managers I have had were very fair in doing the schedules and would work with us and get the floor covered. Plus it was no big deal if god forbid, you had a personal life and something came up mid week! And not all people can plan their vacations so far in advance!

No, it's not good. Us "former mays" were used to "May Staffing", where you were on a fixed rotation, which you picked according to seniority, and you knew when you would be working from now until infinity.
Also, your hours were guaranteed.
This sucks.

right, Macy'sLittleBitch (hee...still love your name !! Thumbs Up ). even tho all scheduling in our store IS done by the sched. mgr...the gsm's have to give the sched. mgr their requests and the sch/mgr DOEs all inputs....for a while there was only 1 FullTimer in one of her depts, so she gave that gal mostly days and filled in nites and later long shifts with other people...which really isn't fair to OTHER F/T people in other depts. see? like you said, she plays favorites with her.

sorry, Frankone, this vacay thing is not how it is done in my store. they don't all have to be picked by associates in the spring. as long as you put in for them like 3 or 5 or whatever the number of weeks ahead it is. of course, you may get turned down for a certain week if there is not enough coverage. that is up to the gsm's to check coverage before okaying time off.

i understand the lunch thing,....folks not punching out, etc. but this gal was NOT GIVEN HER LUNCH TIME OFF and would have lost an hour of pay when she was still on the selling floor. she would have been ripped off !!

In my store, all vacations for the year had to be turned in by the end of Feb.
And they your lunch hour doesn't automatically come out anymore, like it did with May.

Okay friend, you can stop bragging about the benefits of being the teaching profession! Oh wait....the burnout! A cap on your salary! The sound of your benefit package being snipped! Hmmmm, and I wonder why I left it in the first place! Rock on!
