Thank you everyone! You should come back MAYcylady! It would be so fun! Much better than the big red star. I could never leave my retail-worker people... I might come back to Macy's to work for the holidays... we shall see. My last day though right now is in a few weeks.

Yes, leave on good terms Lady. You might want some extra cash one day and decide to go back to Macy's, like you said for the holidays or during the summer perhaps.

If you stay "contingent", then you can pick the shifts that you want to work, and say no to the crappy ones. I think you only have to work 25 hours a quarter to stay on. And then you can keep your discount, and guess what????? You get to buy COLORS!

That is a FANTASTIC idea MAYcylady! Lady you should do that. Some schools are strict on their dress code policy and the discount would come in handy. Plus those extra 25 hrs a quarter would come in handy.

oh no... I am not allowed to be contingent.... I guess that our store does not have any on call associates. I inquired about it.... I wanted to barely work over august and september, then a little in october. It was suggested to me to come back in october as holiday help. That will work for me, I am totally happy with that plan.

Yikes. So you would be just as well off to leave the company! You will be fine though. You in Kindergarten and me in 2nd grade. The future of this countries educational system is looking better already!

I meant to say that you had to work 10 hours a quarter, not 25. Don't know why I put 25.
I have never heard of a store that didn't have contingents.
Oh well...at least you can still get into Disney for free!

I have never seen a company that had that before. I know that Red Lobster would assign "ON CALL" associates to those who only wanted to work for a few hours a week and had flexible schedules.
They also moved associates to "ON CALL" when they wanted them GONE!

Yes, which is why I am leaving.
I think there is hope for the system....I hope FL system can turn around, it is such a shame how many of the teachers here make national headlines due to a serious lack of ethics.

Its not just Florida. No offense, I wish I could say that Florida was the black sheep of the American Public Educational System, but alas it is not and there are major issues in every state in the union.
Granted some states are worse then others, but Florida is not alone.

Yes I certainly agree that there is an epidemic across the nation. I do think though that Florida generally has the worst of them all. Most of the major headliners that gain national attention come from the Sunshine State. We have had 2 teachers in my county get arrested this summer, for sexual realated crimes. In fact, I have become so desensitized to it that my reply to those two teachers getting arrested was "Well there is a job opening for me at that school". At any rate, whether it is in FL or CA, it is still disgusting and I hope with the push of having "highly qualified" teachers that they are also pushing for "highly ethical" teachers.

Like I said before what about NO TEACHER LEFT BEHIND?
Ethical practices have been taken out of so many classrooms that it is almost scary. My high school does not take senior class trips anymore. Our French teacher took a group to France and got caught sleeping with a student.
The student was 18 - American Adult - French Minor. Because it happened on French Soil it was considered Statutory Rape. Until the American Embassy got involved and straightened out the whole issue she was under arrest.
So you go to France and sleep with a student and get caught. When you get home you get fired right? NO! She is still teaching, purely because she was also sleeping with the superintendent of schools. She was a black eye then and now she is even more so!
Georgia has an Ethics Panel and they are pretty strict about it. I think it will be interesting to see the differences between here and Tennessee.

On a lighter note, I saw my classroom, and I cannot wait to get in there and start setting it up. My room is so cute!

Do they care what you do to your room? At the school where I taught, they were very picky about how you set up your room. I didn't understand that.

SO far at my school no.... I can't block our fire windows and I have to set something that second graders can reasonably climb over to get to the fire window but other than that it has been fair game so far.
My room is fantastic. I have started a few things but due to summer maintenance I couldn't really do much to my furniture. I am hoping to get into it and get started on my furniture this week.
Does the Bush Gardens/Sea World thing apply only to Florida Teachers? Perhaps I should move to Florida.

I don't know about the stipulations on the Seaworld/Bush Gardens thing...something worth checking out though.
