I no longer work for Lowes but I have a question that is for a friend that still does. The min. wage is increasing nationally, to $6.55/hr. I am wondering if there has been anything said about increasing the pay at Lowes to compensate. I know of many at my local Lowes who only make around $7.25/hr and around a year from now that will be min. wage. In your experiences does Lowes try to compensate as my area is pretty bad so in a year Lowes will have to do something. All ready they lose many employees to Buger King and McDonalds, which is across the street, as they pay more than Lowes does. McDonalds starts at $8.50/hr and Lowes at $7.90/hr but they have employees who are part time but have worked there for years making $7.25/hr.

I believe the answer is no. I have never known Lowe's (or any company, really) to raise wages based on minimum wage increases, which is why an associate who has been at Lowe's for two years generally makes more than an associate who's been there for three. It's the man keeping us down.

That doesn't surprise me but when there are employees making what will be min. wage in a year, how can they justify not making a decent bump in pay. My friend did ask a ZM about the min. wage increase and Lowes bumping their pay up and he said we will cross that bridge when it comes. Never mind all the fast food places within a block of the store, everyone that is in Ohio, pay more. But really to be honest the raise in min. wage unless a business, or whatever, raises everyones pay decreases everyones buying power.

I started to work there over a year ago and started at $7.90/hr which they still start at. My friend told me after I went to another job, 10 months after working at Lowes, that he makes 7.25/hr which was even less before his one 3 month raise he has been there close to 4 years now.

Well thanks for your response. The answer was not a surprise but it is not like everyone there makes $8/hr and want more but people are getting paid what will soon be min. wage in a year.

BTW, where I work for all fulltime staff, which I am, we will receive a $1.50/hr raise to compensate for min. wage increase everyone else will receive a $1.00/hr raise.

The pay isn't great. When I started working for Lowes I made $7.50 an hour and after a little over 3 years on the job I now make $8.29 an hour. There are starting cashiers still in high school making over $9 an hour. I know i'm part time but still that isn't very much. Once I receive my 3 year raise, I'm going to have a one on one conversation with my zone manager or store manager and ask for $10 dollars an hour.
