I visited my old store today. There is a rumor that full-timers are going to a 4 day work week, averaging 30 hours a week. The plan is to make the full-timers quit so they can replace them with part-timers. This is all supposed to start in September. Has anybody else heard this?

I have heard this since Macy's bought us. I think they prefer p/t help that they can abuse and not pay benefits.
Maybe this is what the whole signing up for your hours deal is about.

MAYcylady, I take it your not at Victoria's Secret LOL
A friend of mine worked at Bath and Body Works and they would NOT hire full time unless you were management. They wanted employees willing to work 20 or less hours per week. I heard most Limited Brands divisions were this way..
On a side note, My aunt's (by marriage) sister worked for JC Penney, and they had a policy in her store that you could not work in clothes that did not come from JC Penney, I believe that Abercrombie & Fitch is the same way. I love Abercrombie & Fitch, but they don't cater to people with a few extra pounds and teachers incomes.

well just think about it..then every one would work 6hours per average no big breaks..NO BENEFITS..because their standing rule is you must work 35 hours per week to collect..unless you were a formal MAYCO..then life on the fast track was when you get RESPECT..I really dont think macys could spell that word..

You mean Abercrappy and Bitch! ACCCCCCK friendofmacy, don't get me started! I use to work at a small retail shop next to them and they were a nightmare! Their freight blocked our entrances, they weren't nice neighbors, and their hiring policies were ludicrous! (Hire the most attractive people and appear aloof so you don't have to assist customers!) Plus, the quality of their goods was overpriced and not very put together!

Appear aloof? I thought they were just that way and that Abercrombie & Fitch hired people like that for a reason..... Hmmm.......

In my store the rumor is there will be NO MORE 30 hour positions, they will all be 35. Which surprised me because the talk had always been no more fulltime cause they don't want to pay benefits.

I like girls who wear Abercrombie & Fitch, I'd get one if I had one wish, but she's been gone since that summer...since that summer...
I do like A&F. My favorite pair of jeans were from there. I wore them until they got holes in them! I would still wear them if they fit.

Polli, how long did you stand outside of the Abercrombie and Fitch store and stare at this poor guy. I tell you, the way women stare at men!
Hehehehehe......

Ahem.....Due to Abercrappy, excuse me, Ambercrombie's unethical hiring policies, we will be employing average looking workers to assist customers. However since we want to maintain the mystique of the beautiful male and female form, we will be employing attractive models to substitute for the mannequins in our store. Those of average appearance, acne enabled skin, and of a full figured persuasion need not apply!

Sorry MAYcylady, you and me don't fit into the profile of Abercrappy so we wouldn't be able to be hired there! However I hear that Absolut Vodka is hiring!

Who would want to work for a Vodka company. It's no fun having to stare at it all day and not being able to drink it...
