I discovered that I received a reply to an email I sent to searscsr@genco.com last month. Unfortunately, I don't have another weekday shift at the store until next week, so I cannot call the gentleman as asked. But, if anyone else is curious about Sears/Kmart returned merchandise with GENCO - or why GENCO is managing the Sears eBay store, below is my original email and the response it generated with the Sears Logistics Services Manager's contact information:
Edward,
Please call me from your store location if you or your other skeptics need specifics, since this is privileged and confidential information.
Thank you,

Subject: Fw: Sears/GENCO Relationship
Hello, Dave,
Following is a message we received from someone claiming to be a store represenative of Sears Holding Corp. I did not want to respond without knowing if this is legitimate. Is this something you would address? Please let me know.
Thank you,
Liz

Subject Sears/GENCO Relationship
Dear searscsr@genco.com,
I am a store representative of the Sears Holding Corporation. I noticed that this Sears eBay account has a GENCO email address; I would like to know the significance of that finding. Also, my store (and 6,000 like it) would appreciate to be given a firm understanding of the relationship between SHC and GENCO. Specifically, we are most interested in what happens to the merchandise that Kmart/Sears stores send to GENCO on a weekly basis? What level of compensation is given to Kmart/Sears for each dollar of product that it ships to GENCO? In regards to RD merchandise – merchandise that is discontinued yet remains sellable – are stores compensated above a “pennies on the dollar” threshold? Does GENCO return any defective/discontinued merchandise back to their original vendors while compensating Kmart/Sears dollar-for-dollar? I, and every other Kmart/Sears store employee, greatly appreciate any insight you can give on the relationship between our two companies (Note: We suspect that this eBay account is maintained by GENCO and not SHC). If you can attach any materials relating to this inquiry, I would be glad to forward it on to many of my counterparts working all across the country that remain skeptical on this issue.
Sincerely,
Edward Hannula

I finally spoke with the liquidations manager (he's a very classy gentleman, I must admit). I won't go into great detail here, but as most of you suspect, SHLD receives VERY little from Genco on the merchandise we send its way. The only way we recoop a significant percentage of a product's cost is if it is rather costly and in excellent shape - but even that isn't enough to guarantee receiving close to what SHLD originally paid to the vendor. (Lastly, the Sears eBay account is indeed operated by Genco.) Given this confirmed information, I am no longer supporting my store manager's demand for penny merchandise to be removed from the floor to be processed out. Instead, if I find something that comes up a penny, I will approach a customer and gauge his/her interest in the item and offer it to them at an extremely reasonable price (between 30% and 50% of cost). That way, if I generate a sale, it will bring to SHLD more than double what we could get through our liquidation operations.

We always sell that merchandise. We sell at 75% or more off regular price to get rid of it. customers are happy, and our store makes some money.
