I know when Lowe's is called for past work experiece they give the work number out. My question is when an employer calls that number, what information are they given?

They have to pay for the phone call so many don't verify employment via the work number. There is general information such as dates of employment, last position and if you give the company the specific code for salary that is included. By law Lowe's is not allowed to say anything that would sway or disway you from getting a different job. There work number is getting to be one of the only ways to verify employment all over the country.
The managers at Lowe's are not allowed to give out information on your job performance. The only exceptions are if you use them as a personal reference or are trying to transfer within the company.

You can request a copy of your work history from worknumber.com once a year and it is free. It is basic info such as employers who subscribe to worknumber, dates worked, pay periods, etc., nothing else like discipline, absenteeism, reason for leaving job, etc. appears on it. Work Number does charge for info requested by an inquiring employer. You can get a copy yourself for free and use it along with your resume when applying for another job. I get a copy each year just to check it out for any errors. To date, there have been none.
