I had the chance to take a good look at the scorecards for last week for my department, and noticed a few oddities. According the the scorecard, a few associates were down. They were supposed to have been pro-rated due to the fact they were commission associates who were asked to work in the stockroom mating single shoes. I also found this one associate who sold $23,163 in his sales per hour! That is 15,613% to zone! Meanwhile, he has no items per transaction, no loyalty, and an average sales of 227% to zone. To my knowledge, he either switched to night part time because I no longer see him around, or he resigned. How accurate are these things?

He sold authentic Waterford Vases or Coture gowns.... Did he work in The Louis Vuitton Department?
Otherwise, I would say they are like the ones I used at The Home Depot..... very unreliable.

I'd like to know being the priciest shoe we have right now is $500 (Taryn Rose.) Even still, that doesn't justify an SPH like that. I had a feeling something was up with it. I also find it rigged to see pro-rated associates asked to work in the back having it counted against them. Either that, or some manager is not doing their job.

Burger, you just hit the nail on the head.... some manager is not doing his job.
There is no way unless they are selling at the local Macy's Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealer that you could have sales like that.
Aren't leased departments just that - leased and do not actually count towards the days sales such as with departments such as Louis Vuitton?

So I finally checked out my local Macy's today, I was in for a surprise.
Macy's at Town Center was closed when Rich's and Macy's were consolidated. When I got to Town Center the old Macy's had reopened as Macy's Mens Store and Furniture Store.
Mens on 1, Furniture on 2, and Furniture Clearance on 3. I bought a recliner, a shirt, and some personal items.
It was really nice, I was surprised it was a Macy's.

Oh, now I see what you bought, I asked what you got on the other thread.
I do like Macy's furniture, I got a really nice set for my living room a few years ago. But I am a furniture nut, so I didn't keep it too long, I love to change my furniture!

I bought the recliner in the clearance area and got an AWESOME deal on it. The sales guy and I bet the manager that it would fit in my PT Cruiser. When it did, I bought it.

Last things first: don't be all too surprised at those numbers Pollianna. The department I work in has two floors worth of women's shoes.
Friendofmacy, I very much agree with you. Sales people shouldn't suffer because they were asked to work in the back for a week, and this sales lady who went to working overnight should not suffer either. To my knowledge, the sales person with the $23,000 SPH is no longer there, so it is VERY odd to see him as the top seller. And to my knowledge, they bring people over from Louis Vuitton to work in the Louis Vuitton shop (which we do have as well.)

When there was Rich's and Macy's as separate stores, many of them were in the same malls around Atlanta. Most of the Rich's stores were nice, and the Macy's stores were full of junk. When Federated consoliated the stores, almost all of the Macy's stores in Atlanta closed, and they laid off the employees. A couple were converted to Bloomies, or something else. Federated told the Macy's employees that they would do their best to incorporate them into the Rich's family, but of course that didn't really happen. Then, just about a year later, Federated changed the names of the Rich's stores to Macy's. I wondered what the old Macy's employees thought about it.

The guy that checked me out was former Rich's. He said there was still resentment about the closing. However the old Macy's has reopened which was really odd. Bloomingdale's opened at Lennox and Perimeter Malls. The remaining locations were housed in malls with Rich's or Macy's. I understand that most of the Macy's locations were older and not as nice as the Rich's stores so thats why they closed mainly Macy's.

Umm Pollianna2, I work at THE Macy's. Of course, it is a big store. I went to the Puerto Rico store, and referred to it as a tiendita (little store,) and had the chance to see the departamentito (little department) for women's shoes. We have full shops (made to look and feel like the store) for Nine West, Steve Madden, Jessica Simpson, Coach, Cole Haan, Kenneth Cole, and Via Spiga. We were once able to sell the Via Spiga handbags in the shop. We also had an Enzo Angiolini shop before it was moved and replaced with Franco Sarto (resulting in an odd appearance if you ask me.)

Yeah 3/4 of the store is womens, The remaining 1/4 is mens and stock room/offices. Why do they discriminate so bad? Thats why I love my local Macy's - they have a whole mens store.

Well, I was told that Macy's is all about the female customer! B/c they say that's who spends the money. In all of our training videos, they say "she" and "her". Never "he/she" or just "he".
Sorry FOM!!!

sorry friend but the reality is that the female consumer spends more than men. Yes, that is sexist but that is reality and so retail companies and boutiques market many of their ads to the female client. Look through a Macy's add and the majority of the advertising space is for women. Hence, they are in the front and the men are in the back.

Fashion period is oriented towards women. Look at Project Runway, how many times do they ever design something for men?
Thats what I loved about Macy's in Kennesaw at Town Center, they had a BRAND NEW mens store - the entire floor was MENS no children, no home. The furniture store and clearance furniture store was upstairs.
It's just like Belk...... their new store is 70% women and 15% men/children. For Pete Sake, the intimates department alone is almost half the size of the mens department. Lets not think about their shoe department. Thats what I like about Kohl's or the new Macy's they opened - they actually devote a large part of the store to mens clothes.
I understand women buy more then men, but some stores go to far.

Well all I know is that drag queens and women would love the new Belk that they opened where I just moved from.

I don't think we have Belk stores on the west coast. Exactly what kind of retailer is it?

Sorry EX, no Belk for you. As a matter of fact Belk does not operate any stores above the Mason Dixon Line. They also do not operate any store past Texas, Oklahoma, or Missouri.
Belk used to be a nice store, but due to recent acquisitions they have really let themselves go. Now they r more of a Macy's wanabe. They have a high emphasis on private label brands, Columbia Sportswear, Chaps Ralph Lauren, Polo Ralph Lauren, and their signature is Biltmore for your home.
I still go into Belk but it is very rare that I find much there. Even though Macy's loves it private labels, they have a focus on name brands as well that I don't think Belk even tries.

FOM, you are correct. I was talking to Belk's SM the other day, and I was saying how our customers do not like house brands being pushed on them, and her remark was, "That's the only way a store can make money; selling house brands".
Belk has many of the same exact clothes that Macy's has, but with a different label sewn inside.
I hate house brands!

That is true on one account. They make more on house brands but totally false on the other. Name Brands do have a profit margin. They just like seeing the numbers that can be made on house brands more.
For instance a Belk Blouse is 49.99 it cost Belk 9.99. A POLO Ralph Lauren blouse at Belk costs $139.99 - Belk paid 126.99 for it. Either way they are making a profit.
