woops. spoke to fast. a longtime macy's associate (FT) told me her hrs have been cut to 32-35, when a BRAND NEW associate has 40 !!! go figure. she also said a few other FT had some hrs cut. same with a PT day associate.

i told her i would LOVE if they cut my hrs. would rather work 3 days instead of 4 !! why don't they cut mine? maybe i will mention it to my mgr....i'd be happy to give some of mine away.

The longtimer probably makes more than the newbie! Macy's shows NO loyalty to their long time employees.

Will the managers pick up the slack? Probably not. I think Dillard's does it good. They are open 10-9 every day except Sunday, when it is 12-6. If Macy's would stick to regular hours, imagine how much money they would save. Their profits go down the drain, when they are open until 11 on ODS or beyond.

Exactly! Why in the world do we need to be open until 11?

there ARE some changes in the works in my store: they are separating petites and macy woman ONCE AGAIN (sigh). the longtime FT person in petites who runs that dept like nobody's business is being moved (she is NOT happy) to no man's land...er...i mean...macy woman. the P/T day person in macy woman was told there is NO PT position there anymore. not even petite's !!! that's weird, and actually untrue since there will not be any regular coverage in petite's anymore. that will be a revolving door of newbie's i'm sure. AND petite's is a very busy department....much more than Macy woman EVER is. the PTimer was given a choice of jrs (HA) dresses (HA) or men's (Don't think so). so she has to go PT NITES and weekends....that sucks for her. so schedules are changing in the next 2 weeks.
but for some depts they say they have not been given any info if certain slots are opening.

Macy's Woman and Petites are (were) together in your store? I can't imagine that. They are FAR apart in my store. The Macy's Woman customer doesn't even want to see a petite associate working in the area, much less be forced to shop right next to the petite section!
That's interesting, though, b/c in my store, they are always threatening to put Macy's Woman closer to Petites, which would be a big mistake.

Ours were not physically next to eachother, rather diagonal across the aisle from eachother. However, the same associates worked the two departments. They were the "special sizes" team.

In my old store, they moved Women's World downstairs near the Home Store, along with Lingerie. They got a lot of complaints from plus size customers saying that they were being discriminated against, because all the other women's clothing was upstairs, and they were singled out by having to go downstairs. The complaints fell on deaf ears.

Actually, plus size customers are always discriminated! Sorry, if anyone here on the forum has some extra cushion for the pushin', but the reality is that this true. A large majority of retail stores that sell full figured wear usually are hidden away because most companies don't see these demographic as being profitable. I worked at multi-levled malls where Lane Bryant, Torrid, and New York and Company were usually on the top floor so these poor women would have to hike up stairs to get there! Same with stores like Macy's that put these departments to the top level away from their "skinny" sizes. The sad fact is that society puts pressure on the thin look so chubsters like myself have to hunt for sizes that fit me! (Yes, I have a beer gut and love handles so try finding designer jeans in my size is a nightmare! Even us male chubsters don't want to be reduced to elastic maternity jeans and baggy sweatshirts so I feel their pain!) Doh!

Um, I don't quite know what to say.
But in my store, the Macy's "Woman" customer does not like skinny girls working in their department! They yell at us and tell us that they don't know anything aobout big women's clothes.

What most people don't realize is that the average American woman is a size 14. I agree that plus size women do not want tiny little girls waiting on them. The plus size clothes are usually horrible. Lauren does a nice job tho.

Yes, the women's clothes are terrible. If you are already big, you don't need to wear a tent. The women complain all the time. But I will say, they don't buy anything in that department until it goes to 75% off, then they complain that we don't have a large enough selection. I tell them that the more they buy, the more we will get.

well the petite dept and women's are NOT logistically close. it is across the aisle and down one dept. the gal who DID work PT in women's is a large gal. everyone else who goes there (myself included) are not large size women, but the customers are so used to the dept being neglected, they are happy and grateful for any help in being rung up !!

the powers that be must have decided that the numbers are bad, cuz there is never any coverage. that is why i think they are moving the FT from petite's to women's. when i am asked to go cover somewhere (sigh Doh! ), and it's somewhere just to hang out, i always ask if i can go to women's. the customers are great (really, there ARE !!) and no one bothers you there cuz it's a one end of the store by the door. a lot of times, they say, NO. and i always say, but there is NO one there at all !! they are such pinheads (idiots)!!!! they'd rather leave it unmanned. but someone must have got on their case. we'll see.

You are right, Women's is totally neglected. We used to have a wrap stand and register in our women's department, then they took it out. There is never anyone working there. But unlike in your store, the Macy's Woman customers in my store are not great! No one ever wants to go over there b/c the customers are so nasty! They gripe about everything. They hate everything we have. Why don't we have this? Why don't we have that? Exactly WHAT is a short fat person suppossed to wear? On and on. Never satisfied. And if they drop a piece of clothing on the floor, which they usually do, they just leave it! Heaven forbid that they should have to lean over and pick it up!

Why do women get a special title?

Macy's Womans

(I used to think the W meant wide, LOL) Smile

Men get the blatant title - Big & Tall

He's out of luck.... The signs say "Big and Tall" only. If your short and chubby then the assume you know what Slim Fast is. They really do discriminate against anybody who is not the perfect shape.

I did see a store called Casual Male XL and they sale clothes for every body type - tall/short or skinny/chubby so I guess you have to buy the expensive clothes at a place like that.
