the opnet has been out for a few weeks. associates who will be affected by the opnet should have already had a conversation with management.

this opnet does not have as many cuts as the one that will come out in january.

good luck to anybody who might have their position cut.

MAYcylady congrats, your job has been cut. We are going to offer you one of two things. Either a demotion to janitor from 2am - 4am at your current rate or a severance package of a Tootsie Roll Pop in your choice of Chocolate or Orange. Thank you for choosing to work at Macy's, have an outstanding day and remember that you count!!!!

Question - when they cut your job does that mean curtains or do they shuffle you around somewhere else in the store?

If they try and kiss you goodbye, sue them for an unwanted show of affection, and make some extra money.

Norma,
Yes, you would've heard about it by now if it affected you...it always goes into effect with the first week of the new season, this year Aug. 3rd...and, yes, it does seem to affect the day part timers the most, same in my store. Some stores took pretty big cuts...mine was about the equivalent of 3 part timers...but most stores have so many open jobs it's pretty easy to shuffle people around...which answers your question, Friend, they shuffle people around if possible (if there's an open job to shuffle them to), otherwise they usually stay as an "overage" until a PT job opens to move them to...they rarely sever anyone, unless business is really, really, bad...honestly, I'm pretty shocked we haven't done this lately, since business is really, really, bad!!!

Frank, my positition has been cut FOUR times! The first time, I was making commission, so I got the benefit rate, which was sweet. Since then, I have been shuffled all over the place! I especially do not like the fact that PT DAY people are forced to work at night. I always give my nights away.
But I'm not going anyway until I get that package!!!

I wondered about that. I know places I have worked just terminated you for no reason. For instance Lowe's would find any dirt they could on you to shuffle you into a position that would cause you to want to quit.

At least they try really hard to keep their staff members instead of terminating willy nilly.

We have offered them a significant demotion or a tootsie roll pop. It is a very generous promotion in my eyes.

"By the way, I just bout a new Aston Martin to compliment my Ferrari. Working at Macy's is fantastic! I just hope they know I won't settle for no less than 18 million this year, oh dear look at the time, I have worked 3 whole minutes today, time to run! " - Terry Lundgren

FOM, they don't want to just AX you, b/c they would have to pay unemployment. It's not for any benefit to the employee, trust me. When my first position got "eliminated", the OPS said to me, "Honestly, I didn't think you would stay." Well...too bad, buddy, I'm not leaving this company without a package! Then they moved me from place to miserable place, hoping I would get mad and quit. I finally told the OPS and SM that I would work anywhere in the store, and do any job, b/c I will make the same amount of $$$, so don't think that I'm going anywhere, 'cause I'm not, until I want to. After that they left me alone.

Thats what Lowe's did. They did not like my availability from college so they moved me from commissioned appliance sales to Cashier. Then they moved me to Lumber Cashier and I pitched a stink over it. So they moved me to returns, I pitched another stink, and then they tried to float me from register to register, until I went over peoples heads and talked to someone else they refused to allow me to stay in one area thinking I would quit because I made on average a $1.00 more than the other cashiers.

Face it, they will find anything to use so they won't have to keep very many employees on the payroll!

i did overhear our SM having a talk with one of the long time members from shoes. she was saying , " i honestly don't have any hours", i took that to mean that there were no extra hrs available in the store. maybe it was just in shoes. but i have not heard of ANY cuts in any depts since february.

woops. spoke to fast. a longtime macy's associate (FT) told me her hrs have been cut to 32-35, when a BRAND NEW associate has 40 !!! go figure. she also said a few other FT had some hrs cut. same with a PT day associate.

i told her i would LOVE if they cut my hrs. would rather work 3 days instead of 4 !! why don't they cut mine? maybe i will mention it to my mgr....i'd be happy to give some of mine away.

I know what you're talking about, Normarae. I'm with you, 3 days is way better than 4! But there are many PT associates that do want their hours, which are being cut, while brand new PT unbenefitted people are getting FT hours.

Every retail store is being affected. From 35 flex hours to 30 and even less if you are PT.

Will the managers pick up the slack? Probably not. I think Dillard's does it good. They are open 10-9 every day except Sunday, when it is 12-6. If Macy's would stick to regular hours, imagine how much money they would save. Their profits go down the drain, when they are open until 11 on ODS or beyond.
