I left the company a few weeks ago for good and have never doubted the decision. I don't know why I still read these boards. I guess maybe I'm just waiting for Sears to completely fall on it's face.
I have never had such a dislike for a former employer to this point. Does anyone else feel this way?

I left five years ago. I've stuck around here partly because I've been involved in this board and the one before it since their inceptions but mainly because I feel that there are messages for EVERY lower echelon worker, retail or otherwise, in what's going on at Sears.

Of course that makes for periodic "assessments" (roughly every six months or so) by newbies of either my right or my motivation to be here, since I can no longer address important subjects like the color of the new washer/dryer sets or the position of the cash wraps and have to dig a little for my little tidbits, but I just sit over here in my little corner and do my little thing.

Long Gone- Here to see if my pension money will be there.

And to encourage anyone left behind that success can be had outside of the Brick and Mortar walls of Sears.

fired after 29 years - supposedly for not using tear sheets. No doubt the real reason was below average PA numbers, combined with vocal oppostion to staying one hour after store closing to assist in "recovery" while working on a straight commission basis.

oh, and being a FT-40 probably made me a target as well. Mad

I'm a lifer.......not proud of it, but that's just the way it turned out. I'll stay till the last light is turned off (which I think will be within the next 2 years), and then I'll move on.

Retired in October 2004(just before the Kmart take over) after 35 years of service. Sears is now a broken egg shell with all of the nurishing yolk dried out of it. I seemed like the beginning of the end came in the late 80's with the major shift in compensataion.

and if you are no longer an employee, what drives you to come back here and participate in the ongoing Sears discussions?

I quit after 16 years... FT40. So glad I did !!! Went to another company, been there almost 3 years. Make more money (still commission). Can sell the whole floor, not give 2/3 of my sale away when they want a range or refrigerator. No pressure on PA's or credit. Good to go !!!

Yup getting out of Sears has been heralded as the best career move one can possibly make.... I still have to drive by the S-Hole on my commute and each day I hope to see chains the doors... that is if sears would go to the expense of chaining up the doors when they go belly-up

Hmmm. 700 views of the thread and only 36 have answered. I've been out for awhile. Numerous things keep me interested. As Nofs mentioned Sears seems a great example of more general issues in this country. For whatever reasons the company still seems to attract people who are more intelligent than the company deserves. And I can't say I don't enjoy making predictions and being right more times than not... Very Happy

Best thing I ever did was give the middle finger wave Dec. 2003.

13 years with Sears. Once upon a time, it was a not-so-bad place to earn a living.
