The only reason I write this is because of the stupid morning meetings we have. Our new manager keeps bragging about Depot closing 15 stores earlier in the year. Here is a news flash...sales are down everywhere for the company Lowe's has had 3 consecutive quarters of negative sales growth. If we have 4 or 5 there will be cuts if not in store closings then in personnel. Our stock is in the "tank" and they built too many store too fast. There are at least 2 or 3 stores in my area that I would have a hard time beleiving they are "breaking even". Our business model is based on the Home Industry and that will not be turning around for the next 5-7 years. Lowe's will survive...indeed but just wait folks its comming.

Already happening in some stores. In my old store they fired close to 40 full time, part time and seasonal people. They cut the Sunday hours which I found to be intresting since we were one of a few stores to be open until 10 pm on Sunday nights. Cut the opening on Sundays 1 hr to 8am. But on the bright note they are opening 2 new stores and flooidng the area.

In our area, along about a 12 mile stretch of a particular state highway, there are three large Lowe's stores, one roughly every 4 miles and this is a simple little cow county, in fact the second poorest county in California by official reports.

One has been here for several years and the other two were opened within the last year. There's at least one other Lowe's on the other side of the county. Home Depot was about to commence construction on it's third store along that same stretch of road too, but recently decided not to go ahead with the project.

I've been wondering how any company could afford to invest that much in a depressed area where the average income is far below the poverty level at a time when any financial analyst worth a thimble full of monkey pee should have been able to see the construction industry and its related adjuncts were riding an unsustainable wave.

I think they would probably start to cut some other things without going to the point of closing stores. Some positions I can see getting cut...say the lumber specialist if it still exists..maybe increasing the hdg group for deliveries for the whole country, increasing the expansion into canada and mexico...if there's high sales of a type of sos item to make a stock item...

I do know of one store near me that probably isn't making budget and it's the lowest budgeted one I know of. There's another lowes six miles away with a hd maybe 8...there's a closer hd maybe 4 miles away, there's not much in the area to start with, there's construction right in front of the place

that and I know a dept manager there who was the district managers project person so to speak (tons of inventories, two remerches you name it) and he laughed when I asked if they were making payroll.

who still calls them britches?

anyway I get the feeling of something here.

were you fired for lowes or laid off? there are other jobs out there. Don't feel bad plenty of people can find new things.

I'm not afraid of looking things up with the law. Because if you just say you have a lawyer the stores themselves cannot do anything as that then goes automatically to corporate. Some management might try to do things but then again there's only three people authorized to hire, fire, promote or demote...just five.

management might try to intimidate people but come on now it's not the military. there is no lowes blacklist. They probably won't even show up to prevent a unemployment claim. They aren't as big or as powerful as you might think.
