I was just watching Oprah on TV. The subject was about clipping coupons, and she said that she had never used coupons to buy anything. Now, of course, you could say that Oprah doesn't need coupons, since she is worth billions, but this is news you can use with customers demanding coupons. You can tell them that Oprah doesn't use them, and see if you can get away with it.

I can't believe Oprah wrote a check at Costco.

South, this is a great idea. You know everyone thinks that they have to do everything that Oprah says! When she said that short people shouldn't wear capri pants, we had customers returning capris like crazy! They would say, "I need to return these, Oprah said that I'm too short to wear capris."
THEN when Oprah said that most women are wearing the wrong size bra, they came in DROVES to be fitted (ugh). THEN she said that if you have wide hips you should wear flare jeans, and I have never had so many older ladies trying to fit into the flare jeans in the juniors department, just b/c Oprah said so! She is also probably responible for about 80% of Spanx sales.
So, the next time a customer tries to hand me a coupon, I will say, "Are you sure you want to use that, b/c Oprah NEVER uses coupons." This is really going to help my sales per hour!

Okrah--I mean Oprah--endorsed the Fit Flop, and people went wild buying them. People went in droves to snatch away a fifty dollar sandal that claims to tone the legs!

But Okrah--I mean Oprah--received the revelation from a friend of hers ... three lives ago. Couldn't get over the fact she did an episode on that. Did not watch it being it was way to kooky for me.

What's it matter? She could wipe her bum with million dollar bills and it wouldn't hurt a thing. She would have the money back before the poo hit the water.

My favorite crazed customer? It was a guy who called the home department and asked if he could return a coffee maker. He said he'd been studying the box and determined that the carafe inside was MUCH SMALLER than the one pictured on the box. He swore that the one inside would only hold ONE cup of coffee. I asked him if he'd saved his receipt. He had.

He also remarked that he'd inspected the heating unit on the base and determined that it was going to "cook the coffee" at a much higher temp than it should and would surely cause a terrible fire. I told him to bring it back to the home department and we'd take care of him. He said he couldn't do that -- he would only return it if I met him on the first floor at the Customer Service Desk in about an hour. Okay....

I got a call from the desk one hour later. He was there with the coffee maker, kind of thrown together in the box. He was a really tall guy, black beard, hat over his eyes, wearing sunglasses. I processed his return and he turned away before I could say thanks -- and that's when I looked up and noticed that he had DRIVEN HIS BLACK LINCOLN UP ON THE SIDEWALK AND PARKED IT LESS THAN FIVE FEET AWAY FROM THE ENTRANCE DOORS. And left the engine running.

Never saw him again.

Thank God.

Yeah that was me! I was in a hurry trying to feed the poor and I hadn't shaved so I looked like a member of ZZ Top. Thanks for processing my return though! Evil or Very Mad

hudmarshmacys, I have one to top it. An salesperson I knew used to work in the housewares department, and told me of a customer who came on Black Friday to return the set of cookware, dishes, and flatware from the night before with the food still on it. After asking some questions (and giving smart remarks,) the salesperson brought over a manager to process the return.

Here's another true story.

Customer at Macy's went to Lingerie to return some used thongs. Apparently, they gave her a rash on a sensitive part on her behind. The worst part was that she didn't even wash them and she still has some skid marks on the butt floss portion. I think the department manager denied the return.

I heard of stuff like that. I knew a salesperson in lingerie, and she told me of a customer who wanted to return a very used bra, and insisted the style name or something was in the bra. The customer tried getting the salesperson to look into the bra to look it up. Apparently, the salesperson refused to do it.

I used to work in mens's outerwear. The department right next to it is underwear. A customer actually asked a salesperson if his son could try on the underwear before buying. I should have let my mouth drop. I do understand about the cut of clothing (I have that problem because I am borderline small and medium,) but that is disgusting.

In moments like these, I am thankful the group manager fought to have hand sanitizer dispensers in the stockrooms.
